Vietnam’s Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC), the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade), and the NSW Trade and Investment Department recently organised the Vietnam – Australia Digital Forum 2023. The event aimed at fostering collaboration in information and communication technology and the digital sector between the two sides.
The forum was held during the Minister of MIC, Nguyen Manh Hung’s visit to Australia. It was part of the Ministry’s efforts in 2023 to facilitate the expansion of Vietnam’s digital business community into the international market. Alongside activities in Australia, the Ministry is also undertaking various programmes in other countries and regions worldwide, including the United States, Japan, and Europe.
Delegates from various agencies, organisations, research institutions, and businesses from Vietnam and Australia discussed ICT, digital technology, and explored policy incentives and investment opportunities in both countries. With a shared dedication to digitalisation and technological progress, both nations anticipate strengthening their alliance and attaining ambitious objectives in digital transformation.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between Vietnam’s Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology and several Australian partners, including the Western Sydney University, the University of Canberra, SET Education, and the Association of Vietnamese Australian Scholars and Professionals (VASEA). It will promote collaboration in education and research, encouraging knowledge exchange and innovation.
At the event, an official emphasised the potential of Vietnam’s digital technology enterprises, noting that several have achieved success in foreign markets. A significant advantage for Vietnamese businesses entering the Australian market lies in the strong diplomatic and economic ties between the nations, bolstered by the presence of a robust Vietnamese community in Australia.
The Consul General of Vietnam in New South Wales, Queensland, and South Australia, highlighted the significance of developing digital platforms to accelerate digital transformation, minimise expenses, and enhance economic efficiency. The official stressed the vital role of international collaboration in driving digital transformation, particularly in facilitating societal changes, which can propel the process of digitalisation within government agencies.
Drawing attention to the emerging cooperation prospects between Vietnam and Australia, he highlighted the strong and trusting partnership between the countries, especially in the realm of cybersecurity. It serves as a crucial foundation for fostering further collaboration.
The Director of NSW International Engagement and Market Development in the Department of Enterprises, Investment, and Trade (DEIT) of New South Wales, discussed the robust partnership between Vietnam and Australia. It is not only evident in their economic collaboration but also in the close ties between their respective governments. Both Vietnam and New South Wales boast significant technology companies and influential figures in the media industry.
The official expressed her optimistic outlook for the future, hoping that the two countries will continue to enhance their economic and trade relations while setting ambitious goals for digital transformation.
Last year, the two sides held a forum to discuss partnership opportunities in technology and trade. As OpenGov Asia reported, at the event, participants introduced technology-based solutions for fields like trade, climate change response, and healthcare.
They also explored the application of blockchain in agricultural product traceability and smart agricultural solutions. Australia agreed to invite Vietnamese firms to explore new opportunities in clean energy as well as provide opportunities to collaborate with Australian partners in technology transfer.
