In response to the development of green energy, a Taiwanese university has established a laboratory to invest in the research and development of wind power technology, providing relevant manpower with green energy expertise in the industry to be in line with the policies of the Taiwan government. In the face of the international trend of the energy transition, many large international companies have asked supply chain manufacturers to use renewable energy to work for sustainable industries and the environment.
At present, offshore wind power plays an important part in the energy policy of Taiwan’s government to have 20% renewable energy. The government expects the offshore wind power installed capacity will reach 5.7GW by 2025, which means that the domestic industry’s demand for technology and talents in this area will increase significantly in the future.
The wind power technology team has been closely cooperating with the industry in recent years for the operation and maintenance of wind farms, assisting wind power manufacturers to solve various problems faced in the operation and maintenance of wind farms.
The Intelligent Wind Power Operation and Maintenance Technology Specialty Laboratory has developed several key maintenance technologies. Among them, the Wind Power Strategy System can monitor the information of remote wind farms in real-time and grasp the status of power generation. The wind farm maintenance information management system combines combat information, personnel and logistics management, which can greatly improve maintenance efficiency and reduce power generation losses.
In addition, the laboratory is also actively developing a climbing maintenance robot. which can automatically operate and freely move up and down upon the wind turbine tower, providing safe and reliable maintenance equipment for the regular inspection, maintenance, and cleaning of the wind turbine.
The technologies are based on the professional foundation of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, such as mechanics analysis, mechanism design, automatic control, and electromechanical integration, aiming to strengthen student research and development through the combination of theory and industrial practical applications.
The same holds true of their future ability to innovate and cultivate talents in the wind power industry, smart manufacturing, and automation industries so that students can develop their talents after graduation and have a long-term effect on the country’s social and economic development, as well as their personal achievements.
In recent years, to cultivate students’ professional ability and reduce the gap between academic uses and practical operations, the university has established “Industrial Elite Training Demonstration Base,” “Applied Biotechnology Modularised Process Production Line Factory” and the speciality laboratory of research and development on wind power technology. It provides students with a practical field close to the industry.
This is to strengthen the ability of teachers and students to integrate with the industry, so that the original single teaching method in the university can be extended to the compound training mode and that students can learn more after graduation. STUST will continue to directly invest in the workplace, seamlessly integrate with the industry, and eventually grasp the blueprint for future development.
