Showcasing Hong Kong’s Dynamic I&T Industry

The Government Chief Information Officer of Hong Kong led a delegation from Hong Kong’s innovation and technology (I&T) industry on a significant journey to Tianjin recently. Their mission was to participate in the 25th China International Software Expo (CISE).

At this international gathering, a dedicated Hong Kong Pavilion stood as a beacon, showcasing over 20 I&T products and technology solutions, poised to strengthen collaborations and unlock boundless business opportunities between Hong Kong’s dynamic enterprises and their counterparts on the Mainland.

The exhibits featured in the Hong Kong Pavilion are primarily sourced from the pool of winning projects from esteemed competitions like the Hong Kong ICT Awards and the “Maker in China” SME Innovation and Entrepreneurship Global Contest – Hong Kong Chapter.

These projects spanned a diverse spectrum of cutting-edge technology domains, including artificial intelligence, virtual reality, augmented reality, cloud computing, big data, Web 3.0, and the Internet of Things. Beyond technological prowess, these showcases also delved into various real-world applications, encompassing fintech, biotechnology, smart construction site management, and digital entertainment.

Collectively, they underscored the profound fusion of digital technology with the tangible economy. To enhance engagement and interaction, the Hong Kong Pavilion thoughtfully incorporated a mini-stage where Hong Kong exhibitors could present their innovative products and services to potential buyers, business partners, and investors.

Addressing the audience at the grand opening ceremony of the Hong Kong Pavilion, the Government Chief Information Officer underscored the historic significance of this event, marking the 11th consecutive year of Hong Kong’s participation in the CISE.

The annual CISE, a beacon in the I&T calendar, presented a golden opportunity for Hong Kong’s I&T stakeholders to spotlight their stellar services and products before Mainland I&T communities and investors. This exposure opened doors to the vast Mainland market, allowing them to seamlessly integrate into the country’s overall development narrative and actively contribute to its I&T advancement.

An invitation was extended to Mainland I&T communities, urging them to delve deeper into Hong Kong’s I&T landscape. Furthermore, he encouraged them to harness Hong Kong’s distinctive advantages, grounded in unwavering support from the motherland, global connectivity, and a high degree of internationalisation. This is expected to not only magnify the country’s I&T capabilities but also shed light on the remarkable success stories of its I&T development.

The delegation comprised around 30 members who represented various facets of Hong Kong’s I&T ecosystem. Among them were distinguished individuals such as the Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the Hong Kong Software Industry Association, along with dedicated exhibitors from the Hong Kong Pavilion.

The CISE was overseen by notable entities including the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, which led the event, with organisational support provided by the China Information Technology Industry Federation. The Tianjin Smart City Research Institute played a pivotal role in executing the expo’s logistics and operations.

The theme of the CISE 2023 was “shaping a new software ecosystem and empowering new changes in development.” This resonated with the evolving landscape of I&T, reflecting the need for adaptability and transformation in the digital era. As the largest national software trade show in China, it served as an invaluable platform for forging connections, fostering innovation, and exploring avenues for growth in the ever-evolving I&T landscape.

Hong Kong’s delegation to the 25th China International Software Expo was a significant milestone in the ongoing dialogue between Hong Kong’s I&T prowess and the Mainland’s burgeoning technology landscape. The Hong Kong Pavilion, with its innovations and solutions, only showcased both Hong Kong’s technical excellence and epitomised the spirit of collaboration, cooperation, and limitless potential that defines the I&T sector. As the expo unfolded, it became evident that the future of I&T held unprecedented opportunities, and these collaborative efforts between Hong Kong and the Mainland were poised to shape that future.
