An e-learning portal for the Department of Posts has been launched to enhance the competencies of about 400,000 rural postal service and departmental employees by providing them access to standardised training content online or in a blended campus mode. This will enable them to effectively deliver several government-to-citizen (G2C) services for enhanced customer satisfaction, a recent press release has stated. The training videos and quizzes on the portal are available in 12 Indian languages.
The portal, Dak Karmayogi, was launched by the Minister of Electronics and Information and Technology (MietY) and the Minister of State for Communications at a function held in Delhi. According to the release, the portal was developed in-house under Mission Karmayogi, which was launched in 2020 to reform Indian bureaucracy and prepare civil servants for the future.
After completing the final summative assessment, a system-generated course completion certificate will be sent to the trainee’s registered email ID automatically. Trainees can also submit feedback, ratings, and suggestions for all learning content. Over the past few years, the Department of Posts has been training its employees through its network of ten postal training centres/regional training centre and the Rafi Ahmed Kidwai National Postal Academy (RAKNPA), a central training Institute. However, with the launch of the portal, employees will be able to upgrade their attitude, skills, and knowledge (ASK), at their convenience, the release added.
The government has unveiled several portals over the past few months to enable a greater level of information dissemination. Last month, the country’s policy commission, the National Institution of Transforming India (NITI Aayog) launched the National Data and Analytics Platform (NDAP), which hosts foundational datasets from various government agencies and provides tools for analytics and visualisation. All datasets on the platform can be downloaded and merged freely. The platform aims to democratise access to public government data by making information accessible, interoperable, interactive, and available on a user-friendly platform.
As reported on OpenGov Asia, NDAP follows a use-case-based approach to ensure that the datasets hosted on the platform are tailored to the needs of data users from government, academia, journalism, civil society, and the private sector. All datasets are standardised to a common schema, which makes it easy to merge datasets and do cross-sectoral analysis. The portal developers informed that they would continue to add and update features and data on the platform.
The platform has datasets from sectors including agriculture, power and natural resources, transport, housing, finance, health, tourism, science and technology, communications, and industries. One of the key features of NDAP is that it makes key foundational datasets interoperable with each other, enabling easy cross-sectoral analysis. The rise of data and digital technologies are rapidly transforming economies and societies, with enormous implications for governments’ daily operations. NDAP is a critical milestone, which aims to aid India’s progress by promoting data-driven decision-making. NDAP will bolster the government’s efforts to strengthen the data ecosystem.
NITI Aayog is the government’s premier think tank and provides directional and policy inputs. Apart from designing strategic and long-term policies and programmes for the government, NITI Aayog also provides relevant technical advice to the centre, states, and union territories.
