Hong Kong’s Smart Government Innovation Lab recently announced that it is looking for companies to apply to acquire and deploy a solution developed by one of its supported ventures.
The solution, called Ai-Knowie, is an intelligent enterprise and knowledge-based engine that compresses the time needed to access insights.
The solution is capable of ingesting a high volume of documents and data in various formats via its Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology. It then automates repetitive business processes with Robotic Process Automation (RPA) and provides users with valuable insights into performance and other types of information.

The technologies employed by the venture include Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cloud Computing, Data Analytics, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Robotic Process Automation, and Optical Character Recognition (OCR).
Use Case
According to the venture, the solution can be used to digitise medical records management in public hospitals. Using Ai-Knowie, patients’ health information on medical records will be updated automatically in the system once the medical records have been scanned.
Once the hard copies of medical records are scanned and handwritten texts are extracted from paper medical records, Ai-Knowie, which has been developed to understand the context of data, then classifies the scanned data. This renders patients’ health information readily available in digital format. Moreover, the data is automatically updated in the back-end system by Ai-Knowie.

Established in 2018, by the Hong Kong government, the Smart Government Innovation Lab aims to explore hi-tech products such as AI and relevant technologies (like cognitive systems, intelligent agents as well as blockchain and robotics) made by various tech firms, especially by local start-ups.
