SMU Academy, the professional training arm of Singapore Management University (SMU), and a business management consultant have announced the launch of a new Advanced Certificate in Data Governance Systems, which addresses data governance issues exacerbated by the pandemic and a lack of qualified data protection officers. The program is set to start in May of 2022.
In line with Singapore’s goal to be a trusted business hub, the new Advanced Certificate prepares SMEs to effectively govern data and thrive in a digital ecosystem based on trust and accountability in the post-COVID-19 era. Combined with the existing data protection courses that we offer, SMU Academy now provides the most comprehensive adult-learning roadmap for data protection officers and professionals in Singapore.

Data is vital to executives in every industry. There will be no digital transformation to move the company ahead of the competition without it. There are no analytics that are driving new revenue streams. However, data must be readily available, of good quality, and relevant in order to fuel these projects.
Good data governance ensures that data has certain characteristics, allowing it to generate value. Executives may make sure that their policies, procedures, and definitions apply to all data in their company. They may also guarantee that data is properly controlled, converted, and provided across all cloud, on-premises, or hybrid applications and analytics implementations.
This certificate program, which consists of six modules, is created specifically for data protection officers, compliance managers, and other professionals with data protection obligations. Participants will get a better understanding of the necessity of data governance systems, frameworks, and standards, as well as practical skills to assist analyse, support and eventually, manage their organisations’ ever-growing volumes of data and information.
This advanced certificate’s goal is to help people and Small and Medium Businesses (SMEs) deal with the most important data concerns in today’s post-pandemic environment. Singapore Management University will offer an Advanced Diploma in Data Governance and Management to participants who complete the Advanced Certificate in Data Governance Systems and the existing Advanced Certificate in Governance, Risk Management, and Data Compliance (GRC).
A business management consultant is proud to partner with SMU Academy to help enhance data protection competencies in Singapore, taking into account the latest innovations and developments in the region. As people move into the post-pandemic phase, this new Advanced Certificate takes data protection competency to the next level towards data governance, covering specific areas such as compliance management systems, mobile applications, data protection audits and records management.
SMU Academy strives to prepare Singapore’s workforce with the competencies and career resilience required for today’s rapidly changing world, especially in a post-pandemic world. The module ‘Data Ethics and AI Governance Frameworks’ under the Advanced Certificate in GRC was the first in Singapore to cover Data Ethics. The module on ‘Mobile Apps: Privacy by Design & Design Thinking’ will also be the first in Singapore to cover Design Thinking and Mobile Apps.
