The Indian Institute of Remote Sensing is offering a five-day course, titled ‘Machine learning to Deep learning: A journey for remote sensing data classification’.
The Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), as a part of its outreach programme, is offering a free online course on artificial intelligence for remote sensing data classification. According to a news report, the course is for students or professionals engaged in remote sensing data processing in different applications. The course will be conducted from 5-9 July and is ideal for anyone who wants to learn machine learning and deep learning concepts to add to their understanding of remote sensing and GIS concepts.
This online course is titled ‘Machine learning to Deep learning: A journey for remote sensing data classification’. It will train attendees to use machine learning and deep learning algorithms to extract specific class-level information from multi-sensor temporal remote sensing data sets.
IIRS, which is run under the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), is a premier training and educational institute set up by the Department of Space. Its motive is to produce trained professionals in the field of remote sensing, geo-informatics, and GNSS technology. To meet its goal, the institute regularly conducts e-learning programmes focused on these disciplines.
The report noted that the core utilisation of remote sensing data is for land use landcover map generation. Further, it has been tried to increase the capability of remote sensing data to extract a single class of interest. Also, to map different stages within a given class, generate information about a specific class of interest in the time domain. In today’s scenario where various remote sensing sensor data is available, it provides an opportunity to integrate these multiple sensor data in a given application, to extract specific class-level information, the report added.
ISRO is also accepting applications for two new online courses on GIS Technology and Earth Observation for Carbon Cycle Studies. Interested professionals and students can register on its official website. While the ISRO free online course on GIS Technology will be conducted from 21 June to 2 July, the course on Earth Observation for Carbon Cycle Studies will be conducted from 21 June to 25 June. Participants can attend the course through the IIRS e-class portal or may also log into the official YouTube channel of the institute to learn about the topics. All participants will receive an ISRO certificate for the courses based on an attendance criterion of 70%, as per a news report. The course on Earth Observation for Carbon Cycle Studies aims at giving participants an understanding of using earth observation (EO) satellites for accurate quantification of carbon fluxes of forest and agroecosystems at local, regional, and global scales.
Earlier this month, another government organisation- the Indian Institute of Technology of Roorkee (IIT-Roorkee) announced it will be offering two new Masters of Technology (MTech) programmes in AI and Data Science from the academic session 2021-22. The programmes will be launched through the recently established Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (CAIDS) of the institute. Ajit K Chaturvedi, Director, IIT-Roorkee, said: “AI and DS have opened new avenues for research across disciplines and specialisations. The Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Data Science shall play an important role in shaping the AI and DS landscape of the country by promoting manpower development, research, and innovation leading to opportunities for entrepreneurship”.
