An announcement
made by the Department
of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) highlighted on
the National ICT Summit that will serve as the culminating activity of the 2018
National ICT Month. Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte will be gracing the
2-day event in Davao. Around 700 delegations are expected to arrive and
participate in the summit.
The National ICT (NICT) Summit will
showcase the government initiatives towards digital transformation under
President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s administration. It is held at the SMX
Convention Centre, SM Lanang, Davao City on 21 to 22 June 2018.
None other than President Duterte, himself,
will grace the event that is expecting around 700 delegations from different
fields. Government executives, ICT practitioners, academics, and the private
sector will be in attendance for this year’s NICT Summit with the theme
“Empowering the Filipino through Digital Transformation.”
The NICT Summit is an annual avenue for
information sharing, presentation and discussion of programs, initiatives,
policies, innovative paradigms and solutions, and resolution of ICT issues and
concerns.
The two-day summit will serve as the
culminating event of the 10th year celebration of the National ICT
Month. With the theme, “Thrive Through
Disruption: Inclusion, Empowerment, Sustainability”, the 2018 National ICT
Month will be culminated by the summit. The summit will highlight the various
government ICT projects that provide efficient services to Filipinos.
The program includes plenary sessions on
e-Government Master Plan (eGMP), digital cities, cybersecurity, and data
privacy, among other notable topics. Parallel tracks are also in the program,
which will be discussing topics concerning consumer protection and digital
inclusion.
The E- Government Master Plan (EGMP) is a
blueprint for the integration of ICTs for the whole of government. It builds on
past plans while incorporating current aspirations to create a vision for the
future.
The plan recognises that the issue of
interoperability and harmonisation is not solely a technical problem, but also
includes many organisational concerns that need to be overcome. Addressing
this, the plan also describes the systems of governance such as institutions,
agencies, processes, resources and policies that need to be strengthened to
make its implementation possible and sustainable.
The NICT Summit is organised by the DICT,
in partnership with the Chief Information Officers Forum, Inc. (CIOF) and the
CIOF Foundation, Inc. (CIOFF).
The Chief Information Officers Forum, Inc.
(CIOF) is composed of incumbent government ICT executives and managers that
promote the use of ICT for e-Governance.
The CIOF Foundation, Inc. is composed of
incumbent and past CIO and head of ICT departments and offices in the
government. It provides the structure and mechanism to support the CIOF, the
DICT, and other government and private institution in accelerating the
development, use, and promotion of ICT in the government.
An earlier
announcement on the 2018 National ICT Month celebrates the Philippines as a
thriving nation. The DICT is showcasing all of the government’s efforts during
the month-long celebration. It also highlighted the line up of events available
for the people to learn from and participate in.
