On January 18, the Malaysian Global Innovation and Creativity Centre (MaGIC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with MIMOS
Berhad, Think City and consulting
firm, Accenture, to drive
collaboration and active involvement of the parties in entrepreneurship
development.
MIMOS, a strategic agency under the Ministry of Science,
Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), is Malaysia’s premier Applied Research and
Development Centre in Information and Communications Technology, Industrial
Electronics Technology and Nano-Semiconductor Technology. While Think City, a wholly-owned
subsidiary of Khazanah Nasional
Berhad, the strategic investment fund of the Government of Malaysia, and
funded by Yayasan Hasanah, is a
community-focused urban regeneration organisation that aims to create more
liveable, resilient and people-centric cities.
These three organisations are now part of MaGIC’s Corporate
Entrepreneurship Responsibility (CER)
network.
MaGIC launched its CER network last year to connect
corporates with entrepreneurs. The collaborations also help the corporates to
introduce more agility to their operations, disrupt existing business models,
provide access to adjacent markets and adopt a more entrepreneurial mindset. Meanwhile
entrepreneurs gain access to the resources, mentoring, market opportunities and
networks that the corporates have. CER also facilitates an environment where
entrepreneurs can build viable, innovative solutions that address real business
problems and fast-track the growth of their ideas.
Bernama reported
that MaGIC entrepreneurs, including startups and individual technopreneurs, will
have access to the facilities at MIMOS, free of charge, to translate their
innovative ideas into reality. Through this arrangement, the entrepreneurs can
test out their ideas before making big investments.
Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation YB Datuk Seri
Panglima Wilfred Madius Tangau and Secretary General, Ministry of Science,
Technology and Innovation YBhg. Datuk Seri Dr. Mohd Azhar Bin Hj. Yahaya were
there to witness the memorandum of understanding (MOU) exchange between MaGIC CEO
Ashran Dato’ Ghazi and Accenture Country Managing Director Azwan Baharuddin,
MIMOS CEO Ahmad Rizan Ibrahim and Think City Program Manager Duncan Cave.
