Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) has teamed up with five key technology providers to accelerate its Education 5.0 initiative, which it hopes would give the institution an edge by putting it in the forefront of research and talent development.
The UiTM Digital Accelerator Collaboration saw the university engaging with five major telecoms to establish a digital campus that featured the latest technologies to support innovative teaching and learning, besides an efficient administration.
Speaking at the signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding between UiTM and the respective companies, Vice-Chancellor Emeritus Professor stated that the university would be the first in the country to enjoy a private broadband network speed of up to 100 gigabits per second.
With the high-speed Internet access, UiTM will be able to provide its 180,000 students nationwide with a smooth online experience ideal for innovative teaching, learning and real-time lecturing, particularly for postgraduate and distance-learning students, as well as allowing its academics, staff and students to engage with their counterparts abroad.
There are high expectations for UiTM to rise to the challenges of producing high-quality education and graduates.
The university must ensure that the future generations who are entering UiTM will receive quality education under this digital aspiration.
Under the UiTM Digital Accelerator Collaboration, one telecom will help enhance UiTM’s information technology operations, while TM Bhd will work on communication services; IX Telecom on software-defined networking in wide area network infrastructure and research collaboration; SIRIM Bhd on technology transfer and development; and, ASCUBT on IR4.0 technologies and integrated education systems.

OpenGov Asia earlier reported that A group of three researchers from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering (FEE), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) in Malaysia recently visited B.S. Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute of Science and Technology in Chennai in India to work on a collaborative research project.
They were hosted by two professors from the School of Physical and Chemical Sciences. The program was jointly funded by ASEAN-India Research Training Fellowship Program (AIRTF) and Faculty of Electrical Engineering, UiTM Shah Alam.
The group worked on the fabrication of high sensitivity humidity sensors which could be used in applications such as home appliances, weather forecasting, food storage, health monitoring and more.
The high-sensitivity performance is achieved through advanced nanotechnology by producing a novel nanometer-sized flower-like structure.
The highly porous structure is capable of providing optimum water molecules absorption site and efficient electron transfer which are crucial in humidity detection.
During the program, which lasted for a period of two months, over December 2019 to January 2020, the group produced three joint research articles which have been submitted for publication in high impact journals.
They have also presented their work at the International Seminar on Frontier in Chemistry 2020.
