A total of 400 participants have completed the Vocational School Graduate Academy (VSGA) training at the Gadjah Mada University.
According to a recent press release, the training is part of the Digital Talent Scholarship program, initiated by Indonesia’s Ministry of Communications and Information, in order to prepare human resources in the field of technology.
Digital Talent Scholarship
Digital Talent Scholarship is one of the Ministry’s flagship programs that aim to develop the country’s human resources in the field of digital technology.
The Digital Talent Scholarship began last year in collaboration with 30 universities and 23 polytechnics throughout the whole country.
It is divided into four training and certification categories. These are:
- The Fresh Graduate Academy
- The Vocational School Graduate Academy
- The Coding Teacher Academy
- The Online Academy
The VSGA is a training program particularly vocational graduates, who are not yet working, to increase their competency in the field of ICT.
For this program, the UGM Vocational School served as the provider of facilities and infrastructure as well as training instructors, who followed the training scheme accordingly.
The UGM Vocational School, for its part, organised 4 fields of training. These fields are:
- Junior Graphic Designer
- Junior Web Developer
- Junior Mobile Programmer
- Intermediate Animator
The material provided in the training was developed in response to the need of advancing knowledge in digital technology and to address the needs of the industrial world.
Benefits
The training had prepared and equipped the participants to be capable of competing in the digital age, have initiative, act effectively, and be adaptable to the future world of work.
The current batch of participants had taken a competency test and produced 98% competency results.
Hopefully, this program can yield an improvement to the quality of human resources in Indonesia, which will greatly benefit the country.
Having more competent individuals would definitely boost the Government’s efforts in reducing unemployment.
It will also increase the number of skilled workers in the field of technology, thereby addressing the pressing need.
The Ministry of Communications and Information seeks to create a balanced ecosystem that maximises the role of the government agencies, the industry and the educational institutions to that they can work together and become facilitators and accelerators, which support the digital economy.
Addressing the cardiovascular risks of diabetics
In other news, three students from the University designed an application for diabetic patients, who pose the risk of having cardiovascular disease.
The application, called Decardia, is being developed to address the high incidence of diabetes in Indonesia.
Additionally, the highest number of deaths in diabetics is caused by complications with a cardiovascular disease.
Thus, early detection is critical to predict the level of cardiovascular risks within the next 10 years. Knowing this can help anticipate treatment in order to lower and control these risks.
The application is equipped with features such as user guides, risk calculations and education.
The users will be required to enter information that will help assess their health. The information includes gender, age, cholesterol level, blood pressure, among others.
The data will then be processed to produce the level of cardiovascular risk.
There are four categories to which the risk is divided into: Low, Medium, High, and Very High.
Once the magnitude of the risk is determined, the education feature will emerge to recommend ways to manage the risk.
