A talk on cybersecurity was recently held by the Universitas Gadjah Mada’s Centre for Digital Society, according to a recent report.
“Cybersecurity in Indonesia: Are We Ready for It?” was the theme of the event, which aimed to provide knowledge on cybersecurity and how the people should prepare for the era of cloud computing.
The President Director of Microsoft Indonesia led the talk, wherein he stated that the future will be held by those who are able to answer digital challenges, adding that every aspect of life would be digitalised or disrupted by the Industrial Revolution 4.0.
The Government launched Making Indonesia 4.0, with the goal of producing higher quality output in the industrial sector with integration between connectivity and communication information technology.
There are several layers to the 10 National Priorities in Making Indonesia 4.0. They are wearable tech, advanced robotics, 3D printing, artificial intelligence (AI), and the Internet of Things (IoT).
Recognising the significance of digitalisation in the different aspects of life, the Government and corporations agree that digital transformation is a top priority.
90% of them have recognised that thinking and acting like a digital business is an important key to future growth.
Moreover, 27% of business leaders actually have a carefully planned digital transformation strategy.
Digitalisation will affect the business and economic aspects broadly, encompassing the state, the government, the business organisations, and the society.
Data shows that in 2017, digital products or services account for 4% of Indonesia’s GDP. It is expected to increase to 40% by 2021. This is considered as a big potential.
However, the high digitisation rate also has a negative impact.
Around 49% of organisations in Indonesia have experienced cyberattacks, which cost the country US$ 43.2 billion. This amount, according to Frost & Sullivan data, is about 3.7% of Indonesia’s total GDP.
For Indonesia, effective tactics and cybersecurity strategies are very much needed because the country is the third most vulnerable country to malware.
Both individuals and organisations should start their cybersecurity awareness. It must be included in Indonesia’s digital transformation planning.
In order to face the era of the Industrial Revolution 4.0, the community must be able to understand the dynamics that will arise and prepare themselves for the changes that will occur in the future.
One such example of the drastic change that is happening currently is the dependence of the people on the internet.
The internet technology has become a means to communicate as well as a way to fulfil a variety of daily needs. This includes cloud computing as a means of storage data.
However, do not forget how rampant cyberattacks and misuse of data are, recently.
Creating awareness on cybersecurity should begin from the self. The simplest thing that one can do is to understand how to use IoT in order to guarantee the security of data and privacy in cyberspace.
The changing of email account passwords and social media passwords regularly is an example of how one can protect oneself.
Moreover, there is a variety of official software that people can use for cybersecurity.
