Selangor has embarked on a transformative journey with the launch of a landmark project: SA Sentral. The high-impact initiative is poised to redefine the region’s urban and industrial landscapes, fostering economic growth and technological advancement.
The Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) launched the SA Sentral project today, featuring a Gross Development Value (GDV) of RM3 billion (approximately USD 666 million). This ambitious urban development is expected to reshape Shah Alam into a dynamic business district over the next seven years.
Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, Menteri Besar of Selangor, described SA Sentral as a catalyst for transformation, aiming to enhance Shah Alam’s appeal as a vibrant city catering to a diverse demographic, from young professionals to retirees.
Spanning 145 acres, SA Sentral will involve significant upgrades and expansions to existing landmarks, including Plaza Alam Sentral, SACC Mall, and the Shah Alam Convention Centre (SACC). The development is designed to create a transit-oriented environment, enhancing connectivity with the Klang Valley through improved bus services and Demand Responsive Transit (DRT) systems. Moreover, the project will address Shah Alam’s current deficit of international-standard hotels, bridging a crucial gap in the city’s hospitality sector.
The NCT Smart Industrial Park (NSIP) was also recently inaugurated, marking another major milestone in Selangor’s industrial sector. Situated within the Integrated Development Region in South Selangor (Idriss), NSIP is poised to generate significant employment opportunities and drive technological innovation.
Covering 700 acres, the park is being developed in three phases and stands out as Malaysia’s first managed industrial park to extensively utilise solar energy and rely on renewable energy sources.
NSIP integrates sustainable green technology, featuring an advanced canal system designed for flood control and environmental sustainability. This commitment aligns with Malaysia’s national objective to reduce carbon emissions by 40% by 2035. With a GDV of RM10 billion (approximately USD 2 billion), NSIP will include 101 twin factories and 27 industrial plots, serving as a comprehensive hub for various stakeholders, including Invest Selangor Bhd and the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA).
The Menteri Besar emphasised the importance of robust infrastructure in instilling confidence among investors. The strategic connection of NSIP to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) will streamline logistics and enhance the region’s attractiveness as an investment destination. Since its launch in April of the previous year, NSIP has garnered considerable interest, with over 60% of bookings from both local and international investors.
These developments are part of a broader strategy for the Idriss region, which spans 40,000 acres with a projected GDV of RM1 trillion (approximately USD 222 billion). To encourage further investment, the Selangor government has introduced several incentives, including tax exemptions, discounts on development charges, and waivers on business license fees.
These measures are designed to reduce initial development costs and accelerate project timelines, positioning Selangor as a key investment hub in the region.
The launch of SA Sentral and NSIP underscores Selangor’s dedication to transforming its urban and industrial sectors, driving economic growth, and advancing technological capabilities. These initiatives are set to play a pivotal role in reshaping the region’s development trajectory, reinforcing Selangor’s status as a prominent player in Malaysia’s economic and industrial landscape.
With their focus on sustainability, technological innovation, and economic diversification, SA Sentral and NSIP not only represent substantial investments but also reflect Selangor’s commitment to long-term development and environmental stewardship.
