Deputy Minister of Communication and Informatics (Wamenkominfo) Nezar Patria has called upon the academic community, including professors and students, to play a crucial role in bolstering the national digital literacy movement and enhancing the digital proficiency of the Indonesian populace. This call aims to ensure that the digital knowledge acquired through training programmes is disseminated widely across the community.

Nezar Patria emphasised the importance of the role of young people who have received digital training from the Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo). According to him, many students have already taken advantage of Kominfo’s digital literacy programmes. “We want those who have become skilful through these training sessions to become digital guides,” Nezar stated.

During a collaborative event between the Ministry of Communication and Informatics and Ar-Raniry State Islamic University Banda Aceh, marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding, Nezar expressed his hope that both professors and students would share the knowledge they have gained with the broader community. This initiative is expected to build a stronger digital society ecosystem in Aceh.

The Ministry of Communication and Informatics offers various digital literacy programs aimed at enhancing digital skills among the academic community and the general public. These programmes include:

National Digital Literacy Movement (GNLD): This programme is designed to raise awareness and digital skills across various segments of society.

Digital Talent Scholarship (DTS): Scholarships awarded to digital talents to participate in specialised training in information and communication technology.

Digital Leadership Academy (DLA): A programme aimed at training digital leaders capable of driving digital transformation in various sectors.

The partnership with Ar-Raniry State Islamic University Banda Aceh is expected to expand the reach of these digital literacy programmes. With the memorandum of understanding in place, more digital talent development classes will be available, not only targeting the academic community but also benefiting the general public. Nezar emphasised that this collaboration will also encompass training initiatives to prepare the academic staff of UIN Ar-Raniry to become trainers or digital guides.

The Rector of Ar-Raniry State Islamic University Banda Aceh, Mujiburrahman, welcomed the support from the Ministry of Communication and Informatics. He hopes that this collaboration will accelerate Aceh’s digital transformation. “We express our gratitude and appreciation for this partnership support. We envision this synergy continues and that UIN Ar-Raniry Banda Aceh can continuously collaborate with the Ministry of Communication and Informatics to achieve our shared goal of producing digital talents and supporting digital transformation in Aceh in line with the government’s vision and aspirations,” Mujiburrahman concluded.

In a broader context, mastering digital technology is considered essential for realising Indonesia’s vision of becoming a golden nation by 2045. This involves the adaptation and innovation of young generations in facing the challenges and opportunities of the digital era. Through various programmes and collaborations, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics hopes to create an inclusive and sustainable digital ecosystem.

In the future, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics plans to intensify its efforts in digital education and training further. This will include expanding existing programmes and introducing new initiatives that cater to emerging technologies and digital trends. The focus will be on developing specialised skills in areas such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and data analytics, which are crucial for driving innovation and competitiveness in the global digital economy.

By taking these concrete steps, Indonesia aims to improve the digital literacy and proficiency of its people, ensuring they are well-prepared to face challenges and seize opportunities in the digital age.
