The Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kemenkominfo) has officially collaborated with one of the local media for the event, which aims to promote the progress of regions across Indonesia by applying digital technology.
Minister of Communication and Informatics, Budi Arie Setiadi, expressed his appreciation for the organisation, which supports regional advancement in Indonesia. In his speech, Budi Arie stressed the importance of an “Indonesia-centric” approach in the digital sector to ensure the equitable distribution of digital talent and prevent progress from being concentrated only in certain areas.
“This digital progress must also consider aspects of equity because Indonesia-Centric development must be realised,” he asserted. According to him, digital advancement in Indonesia will only occur if all regions advance in the digital field.
Minister Budi Arie’s biggest concern is the “digital talent gap.” This is a severe challenge for the future as digital talent tends to be concentrated in a few areas. “What worries me the most is the digital talent gap. This is our future challenge because the digital talent gap will result in talent being concentrated in only a few areas,” he noted.
To address this challenge, the Minister of Communication and Informatics believes that efforts to mobilise the potential of all regions must be continuously carried out to provide opportunities for many local partners across Indonesia. This is important so that the Indonesian people can adapt and innovate to make Indonesia a developed country by 2045.
He optimistically said, “I believe Indonesians have the energy, capital, capacity, and creativity to welcome this disruptive digital era.”
In addition to focusing on the equitable distribution of digital talent, Minister Budi Arie also emphasised the importance of developing Indonesia’s rich local wisdom using digital technology. He believes optimal technology utilisation can make local wisdom products known nationally and globally.
“Indonesia has diverse local wisdom that can be developed in the digital era, one of which is the lontar weaving art, a traditional craft of the East Flores community. Optimal technology utilisation can make lontar leaf weaving products known nationally and globally,” he underscored.
The Minister also reminded that the values of local wisdom must be preserved amidst the advancement and disruption of digital technology. Digital transformation must be accelerated for the nation’s goals, and local wisdom should inspire a Prosperous, Advanced Indonesia.
“Digital transformation is accelerated for the nation’s goals. Local wisdom is a source of inspiration for a Prosperous Advanced Indonesia,” he conveyed in a poem, encouraging the participants and attendees.
The collaboration between Kemenkominfo and the local media is envisioned to inspire more similar initiatives in the future. These initiatives aim to develop digital talent in various regions, promote local wisdom, and accelerate digital transformation across Indonesia.
With this inclusive and collaborative approach, Indonesia is expected to achieve its 2045 vision of becoming a developed country with a digital-savvy society capable of competing globally. This occasion is a significant step towards this goal, leveraging the power of digital technology to empower and introduce Indonesia’s local wisdom to the international community.
Initiatives like this will play a crucial role in bridging the digital talent gap across regions in the future. These initiatives ensure every region is included in the digital revolution by providing a platform for local talent and innovation, including recognition and support. In collaboration with private sectors and local communities, the government needs to continuously foster an environment that encourages digital literacy and technological advancement.
