Countries worldwide are accelerating their efforts in digital transformation, particularly within the governmental sphere. The aim is to establish a seamless and efficient system for the formulation and execution of public policies. This robust commitment to digitalisation reflects a broader recognition of the transformative power of technology in enhancing governance, streamlining administrative processes, and ultimately delivering more effective public services.
Governments across the Asia Pacific are increasingly leveraging advanced digital technologies to modernise and optimise their public policy frameworks. This includes the implementation of cutting-edge tools such as artificial intelligence, data analytics, and blockchain to enhance decision-making processes, improve resource allocation, and ensure the effective delivery of services to citizens. The overarching goal is to create a responsive and agile governance structure capable of addressing the evolving needs and challenges of the modern era.
As part of this digital transformation journey, governments are investing in the development of robust digital infrastructure, especially for cybersecurity measures. The integration of these elements not only fosters a more connected and digitally literate society but also establishes a robust and secure foundation for the seamless exchange of information between government agencies and the public.
In light of this, Miss Apinphon Ankkakamonset, Deputy Director of the Digital Government Development Agency, chaired the training on “Enhancing Collaboration among SECTOR 2 Agencies.” Organised by the Computer System Security Coordination Centre, the event brought together key government entities, including the Office of the Permanent Secretary, the Ministry of Finance, the Customs Department, the Royal Irrigation Department, the Immigration Office, and the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation.
Attendees also included Mr Panithan Khenamnuay, a Director of Cyber Security, and officials from the DGA Cyber Security Planning and Policy Team. The focus was on exchanging threat information, with discussions on guidelines for advancing cybersecurity in Sector 2 and sharing IOC information.
As Thailand’s governments harness the potential of digital technologies, there is a shift toward openness and accessibility in the dissemination of information for Thailand’s citizens. However, it is acknowledged that this increased connectivity and digital exposure will bring about vulnerabilities that demand careful consideration. “The digitisation of government processes facilitates real-time data sharing, enabling citizens to access relevant information effortlessly, but we should also take care of the cyber-attacks which can happen anytime,” asserted Miss Apinphon.
Thailand has been continuing its initiative and commitment to fortify its cybersecurity. It not only collaborates with national agencies but also intertwines with international agencies. Thailand has been actively engaging in international collaborations and partnerships to address the escalating cybersecurity challenges.
Based on the previous report of OpenGov, Thailand’s government has participated in regional forums and conferences to share best practices, discuss emerging threats, and enhance coordination with neighbouring countries in the fight against cybercrime. This collaborative approach is crucial in an interconnected world where cyber threats often transcend national borders.
This collaboration resulted in multiple measurements. The overarching goals of this collaborative effort are to:
- Ensure continuous follow-up on the status of problem-solving for victims at every step.
- Expedite the tracking and return of money to victims.
- Enhance the efficiency of arrests, prosecutions, and the expansion of cases using digital technology.
- Facilitate immediate integration of relevant departments upon receiving reports from victims.
Further, in another report, the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society and the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) will expedite efforts to block the illegal trading of personal information. Offenders will be pursued, prosecuted, and arrested to ensure a swift and effective response in safeguarding the privacy and security of individuals’ data. This strategy underscores the government’s commitment to leveraging digital technology to fortify data protection measures and create a safer online environment for all citizens by partnering with other entities.
In this context, Thailand is proving itself to be a dynamic and forward-thinking nation, navigating the intricate landscape of digital transformation with resilience and foresight. The government’s commitment to openness and accessibility, while addressing the vulnerabilities that accompany the digital shift, exemplifies a holistic approach towards ensuring the well-being of its citizens in the digital age.
Thailand’s proactive stance is evident in its investments in cybersecurity infrastructure and the formulation of comprehensive policies aimed at safeguarding citizens’ digital rights.
