OpenGov Asia presented the Malaysia OpenGov Excellence Awards 2015 on the 8th of October to a crowd of over 1100 public sector representatives. MAMPU, being the key agency for supporting digital transformation in the Malaysian government, invited OpenGov to facilitate the awards. In a public private partnership, they were able to recognize how the public sector is performing with respect to ICT development.
The awards ceremony was held during the Forum and Digital Service Repository 2015, hosted by MAMPU and held in Putrajaya on Thursday 8th October. Following the theme of “Internet of Things (IoT) for Smart Service Delivery”, the OpenGov Excellence Awards recognized those agencies who demonstrated high levels of technology integration.
OpenGov used its proprietary analytics system to collate the results gathered from the nominations. From these results, winners were identified according to several categories. Over 110 agencies participated in and completed the awards nomination process. A comprehensive application form was completed by public sector, health care, and education agencies.
When it comes to ICT development, we must consider the acronym, SMAC. Social Media, Mobility, Analytics, and Cloud are critical to growth of ICT in the public sector.
The OpenGov Excellence Awards identify excellence in these areas. Specifically in these categories: Analytics, Data and Analytics Strategy, Data and Analytics tactics, Embracing Mobility, Leveraging Social Media, and Smart Infrastructure.
MIMOS and MHA were clear winners of the OpenGov Excellence Awards. MIMOS Berhad, walking away with six awards, told us that in 2016 they will be continuing their journey towards the next step of predictive data analytics. The Ministry of Home Affairs, walking away with four awards, said they have embraced ICT to optimize their services to a high degree.
We found that employee innovation is a main driver for all agencies. This is the area which reached the most penetration throughout government.
What was concluded from this Forum is: not only is MAMPU talking the talk, they are walking it. Agencies refer to them as their first point of contact when considering ICT expansion. MAMPU is the forefront leader of digital transformation, creating worldwide interest in what Malaysia is doing.
