The Director of the Digital Government Development Agency and Mr Nattawat Woranopakul, Deputy Director of the Digital Government Development Agency, joined forces with key government officials to inaugurate the One Stop Service (OSS) Centre and the Chiang Rai Digital Local Support Centre. The ceremony, held at the Nang Lae Subdistrict Municipality Office, marked a significant leap towards a digitalised administrative landscape in Chiang Rai Province.
Chiang Rai Province is the northernmost province of Thailand, located in the upper northern part of the country and shares borders with Myanmar and Laos. The area is home to approximately 1.1 million residents, with 12.5% of the population being of hill tribes. It attracts the government because, despite it being a remote place, Chiang Rai has become a popular destination for remote workers and digital nomads.
The opening ceremony, presided over by Mr Sanae Phakdee, Mayor of Nang Lae Subdistrict, and attended by local administrative organisation executives, the media, and the public, showcased the community’s keen interest in embracing digital transformation for enhanced public services.
The establishment of the comprehensive One-Stop Service Centre and the Digital Local Support Hub is an initiative and the first of its kind in Chiang Rai Province.
Expressing his views, Dr Supoj emphasised the significance of these centres in setting a precedent for other local administrative organisations. He noted that they would serve as model agencies, fostering knowledge exchange and study opportunities to inspire neighbouring areas to embark on their ‘digital local’ journey.
The newly inaugurated One Stop Service (OSS) centre is designed to be a central hub for citizens to access a myriad of government services seamlessly. Integrating cutting-edge digital technologies, the OSS centre aims to simplify and accelerate administrative processes, providing a one-stop solution for various public needs. Citizens can expect services ranging from licensing to permit applications, all conveniently available under one roof.
This initiative aligns with the broader national agenda of transforming government services into more accessible and citizen-centric platforms. By embracing digitalisation, the Chiang Rai administration aims to enhance efficiency, reduce bureaucratic hurdles, and ensure a more responsive and transparent governance structure.
The Chiang Rai Digital Local Support Centre, introduced as part of this transformative initiative, catalyses local development. This centre will act as a resource hub, offering support and guidance to local administrative organisations in their digital evolution. The aim is to equip these organisations with the knowledge and tools necessary to implement digital solutions effectively.
Local leaders and officials attending the event expressed enthusiasm about the potential impact of the Digital Local Support Centre on the region’s overall development. By fostering a culture of digital literacy and providing hands-on assistance, the centre is poised to empower local governments to harness the full potential of digital technologies for the benefit of their communities.
The overwhelming attendance of local administrative organisation executives, media representatives, and the public at the inauguration event underscores the community’s eagerness to embrace digital transformation. The active involvement of various stakeholders signals a collective commitment to modernising administrative processes and improving citizen services through digital means.
In the future, the Chiang Rai Digital Local Support Centre and the One Stop Service Centre are expected to play pivotal roles in shaping the province’s digital future. As they become operational, these centres will not only serve as models for neighbouring regions but also contribute significantly to the realisation of Thailand’s vision for a digitally empowered government.
The inauguration of the One Stop Service Centre and Digital Local Support Hub in Chiang Rai reflects a commendable stride towards a more digitally integrated and citizen-friendly governance system. As the region embraces the opportunities presented by digital technologies, it sets the stage for a future where administrative processes are streamlined, services are more accessible, and the community is at the forefront of technological advancements. Further, this province can attract more digital nomads to live there, which can make Thailand a hub for the growing global community of digital nomads.
