HKPC Academy has partnered with a STEM and Coding Education Specialist to launch the “HKPC Academy x STEM Instructor Training Certificate Programme Cohort V” in Hong Kong. This programme is designed to boost the local STEM education sector by nurturing emerging talent and improving their professional qualifications, thus expanding the pool of future innovators and technology experts in the city.

In a significant development this year, HKPC Academy has collaborated with a specialist company to incorporate interactive training content and hands-on exercises into the programme. This addition aims to make the programme more practical and industry-relevant, providing participants with the skills needed to master cutting-edge educational technologies and application solutions.

The programme covers a range of topics, including Micro:bit Basics, Cospaces VR, Python Codebooks, and Microsoft Azure AI-900, and has attracted more than 80 participants. Upon completion, participants will receive the “STEM Instructor Certification” certificate, establishing them as recognised STEM professionals poised to pursue careers in STEM education.

Some participants have praised the programme for its inclusion of various case studies and instructional strategies shared by experienced instructors. These insights have proven highly valuable, as participants have not only learned how to effectively integrate technology into course design but also how to enhance their teaching interactions and overall effectiveness.

The General Manager of InnoPrenuer and FutureSkills at the Hong Kong Productivity Council emphasised the importance of nurturing local STEM talent, in line with the “National 14th Five-Year Plan.” While attracting overseas talent is vital, developing local talent is equally essential. The survey results from “Online Survey – Nurturing Our Own Home-Grown STEM Talent 2022” revealed that many STEM educators believed their knowledge and experience were insufficient, with over 50% relying on self-learning online to acquire STEM knowledge.

HKPC Academy is committed to advancing technology education (TechEd) and fostering local talent. The collaboration with the STEM and Coding Education Specialist in launching this programme demonstrates their dedication. The new curriculum includes guidance on using professional-grade equipment in HKPC’s maker space, enabling participants to turn their creative ideas into tangible products. This programme not only provides access to the latest educational insights but also offers valuable hands-on experience.

The Co-Founder of the STEM and Coding Education Specialist company noted that since its inception in 2021, the programme has trained nearly 400 STEM professional instructors, contributing to the growth of the STEM education sector in Hong Kong.

She also noted that the company is honoured to partner with HKPC Academy for this year’s programme, with strong support from Microsoft Hong Kong. Beyond covering various STEM topics, the programme also offers opportunities for participants to engage in different forms of programming teaching practicum.

Additionally, participants can become members of the Inno Space and participate in maker workshops, where they can explore additional possibilities. Through this programme, the STEM and Coding Education Specialist aims to provide participants with a rich learning experience and further advance STEM education.

Inno Space at HKPC Academy aims to deliver TechEd and services to local primary schools, secondary schools, universities, startups, and budding talent in the field of innovation and technology. They extend an invitation to join “The TechEd Network Partnership Scheme,” which grants members regular access to maker workshops, academic exchanges, machinery training courses, and TechEd events. Members also enjoy full access to the maker space and facilities at Inno Space, providing ample opportunities to unleash their creative potential in the world of technology and innovation.

STEM education in Hong Kong has gained increasing prominence in recent years, reflecting the city’s commitment to fostering innovation and technological advancement. With a growing emphasis on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, Hong Kong is actively nurturing a new generation of STEM professionals and enthusiasts.

Initiatives like the “HKPC Academy x STEM Instructor Training Certificate Programme Cohort V” demonstrate the city’s dedication to equipping individuals with the skills needed to thrive in the digital age. As Hong Kong continues to position itself as an international hub for innovation and technology, STEM education plays a pivotal role in shaping its future, driving research, and addressing complex global challenges.
