Thailand recognises the critical role of a highly skilled digital workforce in expediting and enhancing the efficiency of digital transformation initiatives. Consequently, the Thai government is proactively engaged in formulating and implementing comprehensive training and educational programmes aimed at nurturing and fostering digital competencies.
The rationale behind these initiatives stems from the understanding that the human resource component plays a pivotal role in driving economic growth and development in the rapidly evolving landscape of digital technology and innovation. Thailand strongly emphasises equipping its workforce with the requisite digital skills and knowledge to remain competitive and relevant in the global digital economy.
These training and educational programmes encompass a wide spectrum of digital competencies, including but not limited to coding, data analysis, cybersecurity, digital marketing, and e-commerce. These steps address the challenges of digital transformation by ensuring that Thailand’s human resources have the skills and knowledge needed to contribute to the rapidly growing digital economy in modern governance.
In recognition of the increasing digital skills and the adoption of digital technologies in modern governance, the Digital Government Development Agency (DGA) took strides to enhance the capabilities of local government officials. The DGA organised comprehensive training regarding the Development of Digital Skills and Digital Local Systems.’
The training aimed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to harness digital technology’s power in their administrative roles effectively. Ms. Wassana Matsriha, the Head of the Administrative Department, played a pivotal role in this initiative, collaborating closely with the personnel of Kamalasai Subdistrict Municipality in Kalasin Province.
Kamalasai Subdistrict Municipality is located in the Kamalasai District of the Kalasin Province in northeastern Thailand. Kamalasai is a subdistrict (tambon in Thai) within the Kamalasai District, and the subdistrict municipality serves this area, providing local governance and public services to the residents of Kamalasai.
The training programme was designed to provide participants with practical insights and hands-on experience in leveraging digital technology for more efficient work processes. By enhancing their digital literacy and proficiency, the participants were better prepared to navigate the evolving landscape of digital governance.
By elevating workforces to the realm of digital technology it will ultimately lead to a more agile, efficient, and responsive administrative apparatus. Acquiring digital skills equips government officials with the tools to streamline processes, enhance data management, and improve service delivery to the public.
Additionally, a digitally skilled workforce can better adapt to evolving challenges and opportunities in the digital age. It enables local government agencies, like Kamalasai Subdistrict Municipality, to leverage data analytics, automation, and online platforms for citizen engagement and decision-making. It boosts operational efficiency and enhances transparency and accountability in public administration.
Furthermore, as Thailand and the world continue to undergo digital transformation, a digitally proficient workforce ensures that government bodies remain relevant and capable of addressing contemporary issues. Whether harnessing the power of e-governance, managing digital records, or responding to cybersecurity threats, having a skilled workforce is paramount.
By empowering the workforce with these essential digital skills, Thailand aims to ensure that its workforce is well-prepared to actively participate in and contribute to the burgeoning digital economy, enhancing public service delivery.
