Thailand has emerged as the second most digitally competitive nation in East Asia and the Pacific, signifying notable advancements in its approach to digitisation per reports. The country has introduced policies to foster digital adoption, including implementing the national strategy known as ‘Thailand 4.0’. With the potential for substantial economic benefits, digital transformation could contribute up to US$79.5 billion of annual economic impact by 2030.
Despite the immense potential, Thailand needs help fully harnessing the benefits of digital transformation, primarily due to a shortage of available digital skills. Addressing this issue is crucial to ensure a skilled future workforce, and it necessitates both public and private sector initiatives to bridge the gap and propel Thailand towards its digital future. Efforts should focus on meeting the digital skilling requirements of job seekers, students, and educators to overcome these challenges.
In light of this, the Digital Economy Promotion Agency (depa), in collaboration with the Broadcasting Research and Development Fund Television and Telecommunications for the Public Benefit (KAT), has initiated the Digital Skills for Media Industry project.
This project aims to create a platform for individuals in the media industry to voice their opinions and requirements regarding developing essential skills needed for adaptation in the digital era. By designing a curriculum focused on digital skills, the project aims to enhance the capabilities of the Thai media industry.
Digital skills refer to the abilities and knowledge required to navigate digital technologies effectively. Through the Digital Skills for Media Industry project, depa can support and promote the growth of the media industry by equipping professionals with the necessary digital skills to navigate the evolving social landscape. These skills are essential in the digital age, enabling individuals to thrive in various personal, educational, and professional contexts.
Having digital skills in this era is so essential. Furthermore, it is crucial for the workforce and will generate success for the company and the organisation.
Depa highlighted that the project’s objective is to facilitate the readiness of media personnel to embrace appropriate changes and empower them with the skills to adapt. Additionally, it seeks to foster the potential and preparedness of new graduates to become proficient professionals in the modern media industry.
“Equipping individuals with digital skills will enhance their preparedness for the real world upon graduation,” said Depa.
Depa, in collaboration with partner agencies and researchers involved in the Digital Skills for Media Industry project, invites media industry professionals to partake in surveys and focus group activities. The primary focus will be on identifying the digital skill requirements of the media industry in the present context.
The valuable insights obtained from this study will play a pivotal role in analysing and improving the digital skills development curriculum, ensuring it aligns effectively with the evolving demands of the media industry. This endeavour presents an exceptional opportunity for media professionals to actively engage in free digital skills development courses, enhancing their capabilities and expanding their knowledge base.
Moreover, participating in these courses will foster a collaborative environment, facilitating knowledge exchange and networking opportunities among industry peers. By capitalising on this platform, media professionals can stay updated with the latest industry trends, refine their skills, and contribute to the growth and innovation of the media landscape.
