China’s sustained development in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) has been recognised by its third consecutive second-place position in the Artificial Intelligence Innovation Index. While this accomplishment is admirable, experts believe China should work to solidify its advantages and aspire for the number one spot in the future.
Prepared by China’s Institute of Scientific and Technical Information, the 2022 Global AI Innovation Index Report, which was recently released at the sixth World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) with the theme “Intelligent Connectivity Generating Future” emphasised that China’s rankings in networks, talent, education, system innovations, and patents have improved.
The institute’s director-general, Zhao Zhiyun, pointed out that, despite China’s growing innovation, there is much space for improvement in terms of both inventive scale and quality.
Shanghai, regarded as the nation’s highland for the inventive development of the AI sector, has achieved tremendous gains in technological innovation, industrial agglomeration, industry empowerment, and pilot zone development. The WAIC has evolved into a key venue for global AI sector innovation, supporting international collaboration and exhibiting industry achievements.
Shanghai will step up efforts to foster the healthy development of AI, according to Xu Xiaolan, vice-minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. The city intends to become a globally significant AI highland.
The Ministry will hasten the implementation of new AI industry policies and enhance collaboration among all relevant stakeholders to boost AI development. Xu emphasised the significance of new discoveries in AI and the development of important applications of the technology to promote the expansion of manufacturing businesses.
Reports cited that China’s amazing success in AI is evidenced in its regular ranking among the top nations in AI innovation. However, the quest for excellence must not be abandoned, and ongoing efforts are required to improve both the scale and quality of innovation.
The nation can aspire to be the world leader in AI by encouraging collaboration, boosting technological advances, and developing practical applications. The benefits of AI can be realised while reducing possible concerns with adequate regulatory monitoring and international cooperation.
The WAIC is an important forum for information sharing and collaboration, moving the global AI sector ahead and influencing the future of intelligent connection.
AI has emerged as a critical engine of China’s economic growth. The country has seen gains in automation, productivity, and creativity across industries by embracing AI technologies. The incorporation of AI has resulted in the development of new goods, services, and business models, hence stimulating economic growth and creating job possibilities.
China has made significant investments in AI research and development, resulting in technological advances and developments. To foster talent and assist the development of cutting-edge AI technology, the country has built research centres, incubators, and AI parks. This concentration on innovation has allowed China to remain at the forefront of global AI breakthroughs.
Besides, the country has been a leader in the use of AI in the creation of smart cities and infrastructure as it intends to improve the quality of life for its population by using AI technologies in urban planning, transportation systems, energy management, and public services. Also, AI-enabled technologies aid in resource optimisation, public safety, and effective urban management.
Further, AI technologies have transformed the consumer experience in China. AI-powered chatbots, virtual assistants, and personalised recommendation systems provide consumers with effective and customised services. Across e-commerce, entertainment, and other digital platforms, AI algorithms analyse user preferences, behaviour, and historical data to provide personalised experiences.
