Taiwan’s National Communications Commission (NCC) presented the “2022 Awards Ceremony for Promoting Public Buildings and Land for Base Stations” which honoured the coordinated efforts of central ministries and local governments in granting access to public properties and structures so that telecom companies may set up base stations.
Taiwan hopes to do this to increase its digital competitiveness and hasten the construction of the infrastructure for mobile broadband communication networks.
The NCC has been actively collaborating with governmental organisations since 2014 to deliver improved quality mobile internet services by making public spaces and land available for base station construction. This programme intends to hasten the deployment of 5G network infrastructure and improve mobile communications signal coverage; and received important backing from several central ministries.
Additionally, signal coverage optimisation along train lines has been made possible by the Taiwan Railways Administration. The Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Council of Agriculture have set up base stations in rural areas for the benefit of power plants, sugar industries, rural communities, and mountaineers.
Local governments have also contributed significantly to this project. Base station locations have been assigned by the Taipei City Government and New Taipei City Government, allowing residents to take advantage of the ease of digital services.
The local government and telecom companies in Hualien County are working together to close the digital divide between urban and rural areas by providing high-speed mobile communications and facilitating medical and educational services in outlying areas.
Taiwan has achieved impressive results in its attempts to open public structures and land for base stations. Taiwan moved up one spot from the previous year to take sixth place in the 2023 World Competitiveness Evaluation Report by the International Institute of Management (IMD).
Further, Taiwan was ranked third among 43 nations in the “5G Coverage Experience” by Opensignal in June. These accomplishments demonstrate how well Taiwan’s mobile communications network infrastructure works.
Smart cities, smart transport, smart healthcare, smart education, and smart manufacturing all depend on 5G networks. It is critical that the central and local governments work together to continue offering public buildings and land to telecom operators to further enhance Taiwan’s 5G network coverage.
This ongoing work will improve the communications landscape, increase Taiwan’s digital competitiveness, and open the door for the development of cutting-edge apps.
Taiwan is determined to take the lead in the digital era, as seen by its commitment to making public buildings and land available for 5G base stations. Taiwan is in a good position to make use of the full potential of 5G technology since it offers high-quality mobile internet services, optimises coverage, and encourages innovation.
The government cited that they would continue to lead the world in digital competitiveness and pave the way for a connected and prosperous future through ongoing cooperation between central ministries and local governments.
By bringing high-speed access to underserved areas, 5G base stations aid in closing the digital divide. Besides, to utilise 5G technology to its maximum capacity, base stations are necessary. These stations enable innovative applications, spur economic growth, and support essential services thanks to the increased network capacity, quicker speeds, low latency, huge connection, and high levels of connectivity.
The 5G base stations will serve as the cornerstone for developing the next generation of wireless networks and fostering innovation across all sectors of society.
