Josephine Teo, Minister for Communications and Information revealed that by hiring up to 200 young AI talent, SAP Labs Singapore will double the engineering team and grow its AI Hub. System Analysis Programme (SAP) Development satisfies the rising demand for AI solutions while demonstrating Singapore’s trust in developing AI expertise.
SAP Labs Singapore serves as a digital innovation hub, fostering local digital talent and increasing ecosystem and community participation. “Given that AI will have a profound impact on sectors and the nature of work in the future, customers are eager to investigate its potential for increasing productivity and stimulating growth,” Minister Josephine said.
She added that small investments in AI can result in considerable revenue increases for businesses and benefit people by enhancing their skill sets and elevating their level of job satisfaction. However, to guarantee career advancement and minimise potential labour market disruptions, firms must make a significant investment in training and job redesign.
It’s important to make sure that AI is an added intellect that benefits people because there is a fear that it may replace human functions. Enterprise software providers like SAP may use their networks and AI-powered technologies to revolutionise many facets of corporate processes and provide new value to clients.
Minister Josephine furthered that utilising the promise of AI to improve business capabilities and workforce resilience is a major responsibility of SAP Labs Singapore and a global community of engineers and developers.
Their initiatives are in line with the goal of using AI for the Public Good, which was covered at the most recent Asia Tech x Artificial Intelligence event. These group efforts support innovative initiatives and drive beneficial developments in business and academics.
AI The 100 Experiments (100E) initiative in Singapore addresses industry difficulties that necessitate customised AI solutions. 100E offers customised AI products that meet genuine demands and have a bigger impact on the industry by connecting AI researchers with companies.
The TechSkills Accelerator initiative focuses on using AI initiatives to improve AI talent development. It gives on-the-job training opportunities for new AI talent, which helps them build their skills. With almost 2,600 people trained and put in AI and Data Analytics jobs, there is still room for growth and impact through this programme.
According to Minister Josephine, Singapore is assisting AI inventors in scientific communities by investing heavily in AI R&D as 110 postdoctoral fellows will be financed at local colleges thanks to S$500 million invested over the last five years.
“These fellows will concentrate on using AI to expedite discoveries in a variety of sectors. The goal is to stimulate quick prototyping and energised innovation by combining research skills with industry linkages,” Minister Josephine furthered.
To truly realise AI’s potential, industry, research, community, and philanthropy must all work together. Manik Saha, Managing Director of SAP Labs Singapore, has been named one of Singapore’s Digital Leaders, demonstrating the collaboration of capable leaders in the IT ecosystem to progress Singapore’s digital economy.
Also, the Digital Connectivity Blueprint emphasises the importance of strong infrastructure, especially the construction of Green Data Centres. This sustainability focus intends to solve AI’s energy usage while boosting computing capability, in line with Singapore’s commitment to sustainability and technological growth.
Building public confidence and trust in AI is critical, in addition to establishing collaborations and infrastructure. SAP’s efforts to build Explainable AI using massive language models complement the government’s efforts to promote responsible AI use.
This involves the open-sourcing of AI Verify, the creation of a Governance Testing Framework and Toolkit, and the publication of a joint discussion paper addressing generative AI problems. These approaches reflect a commitment to transparency and responsibility in AI development and application.
