Indonesia Supports Energy Resilience and Net Zero Emissions

To support national energy resilience and achieve Net Zero Emissions, Indonesia Battery Corporation (IBC) collaborated with a consortium of electric two-wheeler vehicles to launch Battery Asset Management Services (BAMS) at the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment Office in Jakarta.

During the event, Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan of the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment expressed positive statements about the launch of the BAMS prototype platform. This objective is to enhance the management of electric vehicle batteries and support the development of the electric vehicle industry in Indonesia.

“This is a collaborative effort between Indonesian state-owned enterprises (BUMN) and Chinese state-owned enterprises, as part of the government’s efforts to drive the energy transition towards Net Zero Emissions by 2060 or earlier,” expressed Minister Luhut.

BAMS will provide comprehensive battery management services, including monitoring, performance analysis, maintenance, and efficient battery replacement. Through advanced technology and integrated management systems, BAMS aims to extend battery life, optimise energy usage efficiency, and reduce the environmental impact of battery usage.

“With the visible volume of electric vehicles, investors will see that investing in Indonesia is promising. This investment should also drive economic growth, create job opportunities, and utilise local raw materials,” he explained.

Furthermore, Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan emphasised some individuals’ concerns regarding the range of electric vehicles in his speech. He acknowledged the need to improve perceptions and understanding of the reliability and convenience of electric vehicles in terms of their achievable range.

Indonesia Battery Corporation (IBC) and the consortium of electric two-wheeler vehicles, through Battery Asset Management Services (BAMS), are committed to continuously developing battery technology that can extend the range of electric vehicles. Through ongoing research and innovation, they strive to enhance electric vehicles’ battery capacity and energy efficiency to address these concerns.

Additionally, efforts are being made to build a wide and easily accessible charging infrastructure. By providing more evenly distributed charging stations in various regions, people are expected to have more confidence in using electric vehicles without worrying about running out of power during their journeys.

Through collaboration with the consortium of electric two-wheeler vehicles, BAMS helps strengthen the electric vehicle ecosystem and promote the adoption of renewable energy-based vehicles in the country.

The launch of BAMS is a significant step in driving the energy transformation towards Net Zero Emissions in Indonesia. Through effective and sustainable management of electric vehicle batteries, it is hoped to create a sustainable energy ecosystem, reduce dependence on fossil energy sources, and mitigate greenhouse gas emissions.

Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan believes that all parties involved can continue to uphold their commitment as part of the BAMS IBC ecosystem platform to collectively develop industry standards for battery-based electric two-wheeler vehicles in Indonesia.

With the BAMS platform, Indonesia can strengthen its position as a leader in developing and implementing electric vehicle technology in the region. In addition to facilitating and optimising driving performance, this innovation will provide long-term benefits to society, the environment, and the industrial sector, while supporting the government’s efforts to achieve national energy sustainability goals.
