China will accelerate the construction of virtual private networks in the 5G industry and expand the country’s 5G application scenarios, according to the Minister of Industry and Information Technology, Jin Zhuanglong.
He added that the nation will also expand the coverage of high-quality networks, such as 5G and gigabit optical networks, by continuously optimising the infrastructure layout and constructing several 5G factories.
China Telecom and China Mobile, both owned by the government, have made significant strides in the telecommunications industry. China Telecom has constructed a vast all-optical network, offering gigabit optical networks in over 300 locations, whereas China Mobile has taken the lead in establishing international 5G standards and has filed for several patents. Also, another state-owned, China Tower has upgraded over 200,000 communication towers with 5G and AI technology.
The country has its sights set on the next-generation internet and other frontier sectors, advancing research and development of sixth-generation (6G) communications technology comprehensively.
The nation will facilitate the development of new types of information infrastructure facilities, accelerate the adoption of information technology, and expand the industrial internet’s integrated applications.
According to Minister Jin, the incubation of emergent sectors will be accelerated, and efforts will be made continuously to enhance the country’s full industrial-chain advantages in the mobile and optical communication sectors.
Prioritising 5G infrastructure and next-generation technological developments enables speedier and more dependable connectivity, thereby facilitating seamless communication, data transfer, and real-time applications.
It creates new opportunities for innovation and economic expansion. 5G-powered advanced technologies, such as the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), and augmented reality (AR), drive digital transformation across industries, resulting in increased efficiency, productivity, and the development of new business models.
Prioritising these developments increases global technological competitiveness. Countries in the vanguard of 5G and next-generation technology enjoy a competitive advantage in attracting investments, fostering R&D, and nurturing a strong tech ecosystem.
It promotes the growth of smart cities and intelligent infrastructure. 5G delivers smart solutions for transportation, healthcare, energy management, and other applications, hence improving sustainability, resource efficiency, and quality of life.
In addition, Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Guoqing has emphasised the importance of accelerating efforts to create breakthroughs in critical technologies and turn manufacturing into a high-end, smart, and green industry to assist establish a modern industrial system backed by the real economy.
Vice Premier Zhang, a member of China Central Committee’s Political Bureau, made the statements during a research trip to Shanghai on the development of the manufacturing sector. He paid visits to manufacturing companies specialising in satellite navigation, commercial aeroplanes, new energy vehicles, heavy gas turbines, and integrated circuits, among others, to learn about their most recent developments in industrial innovation.
Manufacturing is the cornerstone underlying all attempts to establish a country, according to Zhang, who advocated for high-quality manufacturing growth to be given priority.
The vice premier emphasised the importance of innovation in the high-quality development of manufacturing, as well as collaborative efforts to create breakthroughs in core technologies in critical fields and build safe, self-sustaining, and better-controlled industrial and supply chains.
Efforts must be made to expand manufacturing’s integration with the next generation of information technology, promote smart, intelligent, and green production, and speed up the transformation and upgrading of traditional manufacturing industries.
Zhang also emphasised the importance of developing and strengthening emerging strategic sectors, strengthening China’s industrial basis, and modernising the industry chain.
