The rapid adoption of Generative AI is evident as it has already attracted one million users worldwide within just five days of its launch. This remarkable global response highlights the current widespread popularity of AI technology. Additionally, when considering the many other tools developed by technology companies, it becomes evident that intense competition in AI affects various domains.
The AI Clinic at Khon Kaen University Library has been established with the aim of educating individuals within the educational institution and equipping researchers with the necessary skills in the digital era. This initiative focuses on introducing Generative AI tools and serving as a helpful assistant to researchers, empowering them to enhance their capabilities.
Associate Professor Kanda Saikaew, PhD, Deputy Director for Digital Technology and Innovation at KKU Library, provides an insightful explanation regarding the factors driving the significant growth of AI in recent times. These factors include the exponential increase in computing power facilitated by the advancements in hardware specifically designed to handle vast amounts of big real-time data.
Furthermore, notable advancements in algorithms, available research and collaboration, industry investments, and growing interest have all contributed to the rapid progress of AI. Significant technological advancements in related fields, such as natural language data processing, have also played a crucial role. However, it is important to highlight that Generative AI is not merely a tool or technology but a remarkable innovation enabling it to imitate closely human-made creations. Generative AI is being widely utilised to enhance work efficiency and productivity.
“Several people believed that many employees get laid off by their company because of AI development. In fact, AI is just a tool to foster our productivity in the job field, therefore, the students nowadays should know how to control AI so that they will not be disrupted by AI,” Kanda explained.
The AI Clinic platform is designed to provide comprehensive guidance and support to researchers, lecturers, and students in utilising Generative AI tools and various available functions. To ensure a seamless user experience, the AI Clinic is staffed with a dedicated Prompt Librarian who will offer expert guidance on utilising these functions effectively.
The Prompt Librarian will provide instruction on a wide array of tasks, including but not limited to reading, drawing conclusions, analysing the strengths and weaknesses of research articles, proposing innovative research topics, and even checking English grammar. By leveraging the power of AI, users will experience significant time savings and convenience in conducting their research. Simply uploading the required AI and engaging with the available functions, researchers can streamline their workflow and enjoy a more efficient and effortless research process.
Yosyada Sitthiwong, the Prompt Librarian at the AI Clinic, KKU Library, emphasised that the clinic offers more than just instruction on utilising AI tools. It also provides valuable knowledge on utilising plagiarism detection software to check articles or research work generated by AI.
By leveraging this feature, the teachers and lecturers will efficiently assess and provide feedback on their students’ assignments. By incorporating plagiarism detection software into the clinic’s offerings, educators can ensure the integrity and originality of the submitted work while streamlining their grading and correction process.
By engaging and providing this consulting opportunity within academic entities, AI and academic institutions will work closely to advance and develop research which can contribute to Thailand’s education and expertise in human resources.
