The National University of Singapore (NUS) is expanding its contributions to Vietnam’s digital transformation and economic development through a series of strategic partnerships. NUS signed several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with industry and academic partners in Vietnam, aiming to enhance digital skills, research, and innovation in the country, particularly in southern Vietnam’s Binh Duong province.
Three MoUs were signed between NUS, Becamex IDC Corporation, and the Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP). These partnerships are designed to strengthen Vietnam’s workforce and boost its economic competitiveness by integrating digital technologies and innovation into key sectors.
The collaborations will focus on promoting digital transformation, advancing medical education and driving research in smart industries, laying the groundwork for Vietnam’s long-term development in the digital economy.
NUS-ISS is leading one of the major initiatives under these agreements. It will work with the Eastern International University (EIU) to enhance digital skills in Vietnam through a five-year partnership. The programme will focus on providing training in areas such as Digital Leadership and Generative AI, starting with a pilot phase for Becamex executives.
This initiative may expand to offer more extensive training at managerial and executive levels, helping local enterprises thrive in an increasingly digital world. Central to this project will be the establishment of a co-branded Digital Skills Academy, which will offer large-scale training in critical digital competencies. NUS-ISS will provide consultancy, course content, and trainer support to ensure the programme’s success.
NUS Medicine is also collaborating with EIU to improve medical education and healthcare innovation in Vietnam. This partnership builds on a prior five-year agreement that focused on nursing education and research. Going forward, NUS Medicine and EIU plan to launch joint training programmes, faculty development activities, and academic conferences, with the aim of transforming Vietnam’s healthcare landscape through modern technologies and research initiatives.
Additionally, there are discussions around establishing a medical school and simulation teaching facilities in Vietnam to address the country’s growing healthcare needs.
The third MoU between NUS and EIU will advance education and research in Smart Industries and Digital Transformation. Leveraging the expertise of NUS’ School for Continuing and Lifelong Education and the College of Design and Engineering, the collaboration will focus on reskilling and upskilling programmes for Industry 4.0.
The partners will engage in joint research initiatives, enhance student mobility through international programmes, and provide advisory support for developing cutting-edge laboratory facilities to support research and education.
In addition to these partnerships, NUS signed an MoU with Van Lang University (VLU) in Ho Chi Minh City. The collaboration will focus on integrated circuit design, semiconductor technology, and artificial intelligence (AI). Both universities will work on reskilling and upskilling programmes for these high-demand fields, as well as develop joint training and research initiatives. The exchange of academic information, student mobility programmes, and the development of state-of-the-art laboratory systems are key components of this partnership.
These initiatives are part of NUS’ broader strategy to support economic and technological advancement in Vietnam. By fostering collaborations in digital transformation, healthcare, and advanced technologies, NUS is helping Vietnam build a strong foundation for its future workforce and innovation-driven economy.
In addition to current partnerships, NUS is exploring opportunities to deepen its collaboration with the Vietnam National University in Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCMC), focusing on areas such as AI, fintech, and sustainability.
These initiatives reflect NUS’ commitment to fostering talent development, promoting research excellence, and contributing to Vietnam’s digital transformation and global competitiveness. Through these efforts, NUS is playing a pivotal role in Vietnam’s progress toward a more resilient and tech-driven future.
