The Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) celebrated its 23rd anniversary, marking over two decades of significant contributions to Indonesia’s digital transformation and economic development. Established through Presidential Decree No. 228/M on August 9, 2001, Kominfo has played a crucial role in driving digital innovation and enhancing the nation’s economic growth.
In her address during the anniversary event, Secretary General Mira Tayyiba reflected on Kominfo’s journey and its impact on Indonesia’s digital landscape. She emphasised that the Ministry has evolved beyond its initial role as a communications manager to become a key driver of digital transformation.
“In our 23-year journey, Kominfo has been more than just a communications manager. We have been a driving force behind digital transformation, significantly impacting our economic growth,” Tayyiba stated.
She highlighted the Ministry’s commitment to fostering a dynamic and inclusive digital ecosystem that aligns with Indonesia’s broader goals of technological advancement and economic prosperity.
As global challenges and rapid technological advancements continue to reshape the digital landscape, Tayyiba stressed the necessity of digital transformation for Indonesia’s future.
“Digital transformation is no longer an option; it is a necessity that Indonesia must embrace to thrive in the digital era,” she said.
The Secretary General outlined Kominfo’s ongoing efforts to innovate and adapt, ensuring that Indonesia remains at the forefront of digital progress while fostering an inclusive and equitable digital environment.
Tayyiba underscored the importance of innovation and digital sovereignty as key elements in addressing future challenges and creating opportunities for the next generation.
“Our spirit of innovation is essential for navigating global challenges and ensuring Indonesia’s position as a digitally sovereign nation,” she asserted.
The Ministry’s focus on innovation aims to not only utilise technology effectively but also to ensure that Indonesia can lead with confidence and autonomy in the digital age.
The anniversary celebration also highlights the Ministry’s commitment to collaboration with various stakeholders.
“We invite all our partners and stakeholders to join us in our mission to build a digitally sovereign Indonesia. With strong collaboration between government, industry, and society, we can achieve our vision of a Golden Indonesia,” Tayyiba said.
The Ministry’s call to action emphasises the importance of collective effort in realising a thriving digital economy and society.
Kominfo’s journey began with the appointment of the late H. Syamsul Mu’arif as Minister of State for Communication and Information in the Gotong Royong Cabinet. The Ministry’s structure and responsibilities were formalised a month later with the issuance of Presidential Decree No. 101 of 2001. This date has since been commemorated as the peak of Kominfo’s annual anniversary celebrations, marking a significant milestone in the Ministry’s evolution.
As technology advances and digital penetration strengthens across Indonesia, Kominfo remains dedicated to ensuring that all Indonesians benefit from digital transformation. The Ministry’s efforts include improving economic, social, and informational access, contributing to the nation’s overall development.
The 23rd anniversary of Kominfo will be celebrated with the culmination of the 2024 Kominfo Carnival series on September 20 and the release of the book “A Decade of Digital Leap: Breaking Boundaries, Strengthening Unity”.
This publication reflects on the Ministry’s progress over the past decade and its role in shaping Indonesia’s digital future. The celebrations highlight Kominfo’s ongoing commitment to innovation, collaboration, and digital sovereignty, reinforcing its mission to drive Indonesia’s success in the global digital arena.
With a focus on innovation and inclusivity, Kominfo’s 23rd anniversary marks a pivotal moment in its mission to lead Indonesia into a new era of digital excellence and economic growth. The Ministry’s efforts continue to shape a vibrant and resilient digital landscape, ensuring that Indonesia remains at the forefront of technological advancement and global digital leadership.
