The relocation of Indonesia’s capital from Jakarta to Nusantara (IKN) will proceed as planned, in accordance with the government’s roadmap and legal framework, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has affirmed. This monumental initiative is set to redefine Indonesia’s future by addressing various socio-economic and environmental challenges while paving the way for sustainable growth and development.

President Jokowi emphasised that the relocation of the capital involves far more than just the physical transfer of infrastructure from Jakarta. The government is committed to a comprehensive transformation that includes changing mindsets, streamlining bureaucracy, and adopting new ways of working through advanced technology in IKN. This holistic approach aims to create a modern, efficient, and dynamic capital that can lead Indonesia into the future.

“We are not merely moving buildings and people; we are shifting our approach to governance, development, and innovation. Nusantara will be the birthplace of Indonesia’s future economy, a hub for the green economy, advanced technology, and cutting-edge knowledge,” President Jokowi stated.

Supporting Jokowi’s vision, the Minister of Communication and Information, Budi Arie Setiadi, highlighted the critical role of the State Electricity Company (PLN) Hub in providing telecommunication technology services. The deployment of the 5G network is a key component of this plan, ensuring that Nusantara is equipped with the latest communication technologies.

“The PLN Hub as the centre of electrical infrastructure in IKN is very important. We have already pushed for investment in the 5G telecommunication network,” he explained.

Minister Budi Arie emphasised the strategic role of the PLN Hub in supporting the development of the 5G telecommunication network as one of the digital connectivity infrastructures in IKN. “A stable and reliable power supply from the PLN Hub will ensure that the 5G network can operate optimally, bringing digital connectivity to IKN,” he asserted.

He added that 5G technology is not just about high internet speed but also opens up opportunities to improve the quality of public government services. “The 5G network will enable applications in the Electronic-Based Government System (SPBE) to be implemented,” he said.

According to Minister Budi Arie, collaboration between PLN and telecommunications operators is the key to the successful implementation of digital connectivity in IKN. “Our preparations will continue. Telkom has already started pulling the infrastructure, and later, in line with the development of IKN, the capacity will also continue to be increased,” he stated.

The construction of the PLN Hub in IKN is proof of the government’s commitment to providing the best digital connectivity for the community. “Moreover, PLN has Icon Plus, which also supports telecommunication infrastructure,” emphasised Minister Budi Arie.

Icon Plus is a subsidiary of PT PLN, offering a range of services, including internet broadband, voice over internet protocol (VoIP), and applications for banking. It plays a significant role in the digital ecosystem, providing essential services that enable individuals and businesses to stay connected and productive in today’s fast-paced world.

With the presence of the PLN Hub, it is expected that IKN can enjoy digital services that are not only fast and reliable but also capable of driving efficiency and innovation in various sectors, from government to public services. The development of the 5G network in IKN is projected to change the way people interact with technology and provide broader access to information and digital services.

Furthermore, this initiative is also in line with Indonesia’s grand vision to become one of the largest digital economies in Southeast Asia. The presence of advanced telecommunication infrastructure in IKN will be a crucial foundation for supporting the growth of the national digital economy.

Through close collaboration between the government, PLN, and telecommunications operators, Indonesia can optimise its digital potential to improve the quality of life of its people and its competitiveness on the global stage.
