The Minister of Communication and Informatics, Budi Arie, has received a visit from the Minister of Information and Communication Technology of Papua New Guinea, Timothy Masiu, at the Ministry of Communication and Informatics office. The arrival of the delegation from Papua New Guinea aimed to explore possible cooperation between the two countries in the information and communication technology (ICT) sector.
During the session, Minister Budi Arie emphasised the importance of this meeting as an opportunity to exchange beneficial views, which will bring a deeper understanding and open up mutually beneficial cooperation opportunities for both countries.
Further, Timothy Masiu and Budi Arie also discussed the importance of the ICT sector, which has become a fundamental aspect in supporting the development of various other industries in the digital era. He said the digital sector could increase over 50% of the global gross domestic product (GDP). It is recorded to grow about 2.10% faster than the non-digital sector.
Moreover, Minister Budi Arie highlighted the potential for economic growth in Indonesia, which is expected to increase by 6.2% annually and contribute up to 20.5% to Indonesia’s GDP by 2045. This discussion shows both countries’ commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and exploring new opportunities to utilise technology for joint progress.
“This projection is possible with efforts to accelerate digital transformation that promote economic growth,” he revealed.
Timothy Masiu opened opportunities for collaboration in digital transformation to enable accelerated adaptation and the achievement of welfare in the current digital landscape. “Efforts to bring about digital transformation in each country for collaboration are possible. And we are opening up the potential to collaborate on the frequency spectrum, broadcasting, and the digital economy to advance SMEs and startups,” he said.
Minister Budi Arie envisions the collaboration between Indonesia and Papua New Guinea will soon materialise in the ICT sector. “To advance inclusivity and prosperity that is appropriate for our respective nations. We will explore our collaboration opportunities in the future,” he stated.
The Minister of Communication and Informatics, Budi Arie, affirmed that significant economic growth projections can be achieved through acceleration in digital transformation, which plays a crucial role in boosting economic growth. “This projection is possible with efforts to accelerate digital transformation that promote an increase in economic growth,” explained Minister Budi Arie at the meeting.
He outlined that with broader digital technology integration, both in government and critical economic sectors, significant efficiencies and new markets can be opened, ultimately stimulating economic growth.
To accelerate digital adaptation and achieve broader welfare in the current digital landscape, Menkominfo expressed Indonesia’s readiness to open and expand international collaboration, especially with Papua New Guinea, in various aspects of digital transformation.

And we are opening up the potential to collaborate on the frequency spectrum, broadcasting, and the digital economy to advance SMEs and startups,” he stated, highlighting initiatives that support the growth of small and medium enterprises and startup innovations that can contribute significantly to the economy of both countries.
Minister Budi Arie also hoped that the ICT sector collaboration between Indonesia and Papua New Guinea could soon be realised, leading to increased inclusivity and sustainable prosperity for both nations.
“To advance inclusivity and prosperity that is appropriate for our respective nations, we will explore our collaboration opportunities in the future,” he said, indicating a strong commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in the field of technology and information that benefits economically and deepens intercountry relations.
