Thailand has been making a lot of progress in modernising its nation. It is marked by the event that the Prachinburi Provincial Local Government Promotion Office organised. Mr Usara Visarthanon, the Director of Consulting and Project Management at the Digital Government Development Agency (DGA), served as a keynote speaker at a meeting, aiming to elaborate and rehearse operational guidelines for local government organisations, focusing on integrating digital technology.
The meeting presided over by Mr Ronarong Nakhonchinda, Prachinburi Provincial Governor, saw Mr Usara Visarthanon shedding light on the concept of “Digital Government” and advocating for the adoption of a central platform called “Digital Local System.” This initiative empowers officials to apply management systems within the electronic archives, fostering an integrated service system.
The DGA Director emphasised implementing the e-Document system, a key component of the Digital Local System. This system aims to streamline government practices, providing efficiency and transparency for regional and local government agencies. Mr Usara highlighted various modules within the system, including the Online Construction Permit Request System, Restaurant License Application System, Online Garbage Fee Payment System, and Online Fee Payment System.
One of the primary objectives of this digital transformation is to enhance convenience for both citizens and government agencies. By utilising the Digital Local System, individuals can access services seamlessly, reducing the reliance on traditional paperwork, printer ink, physical files, filing cabinets, and dedicated document storage rooms. This shift not only promotes environmental sustainability but also significantly cuts down on operational costs.
Furthermore, adopting digital platforms is expected to alleviate the burden of travel expenses for citizens who traditionally need to visit government offices for various transactions. With the integration of online systems, people can conveniently engage with government services from the comfort of their homes or workplaces.
Mr Usara Visarthanon emphasised that the Digital Local System promotes a more facilitated, transparent, and modern approach to governance. By embracing digital technologies, government agencies can efficiently cater to the exact needs of the people, aligning with the desires of the modern populace.
The director also underscored transitioning from individual-dependent workflows to system-based operations. This shift minimises the risk of errors and ensures a standardised and streamlined approach to administrative tasks. Government officials benefit from enhanced collaboration and information-sharing within a centralised digital environment.
As part of the broader agenda, the DGA aims to support local government agencies in embracing digital transformation. This includes providing guidance on the effective use of the Digital Local System, encouraging the adoption of best practices, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement in digital governance.
The digital initiative aligns with the Ministry of Interior Department’s policies for Local Administration Promotion, reflecting a commitment to advancing administrative practices in line with contemporary technological trends. Mr Ronarong Nakhonchinda, Prachinburi Provincial Governor, expressed gratitude for the insightful guidance provided by Mr Usara Visarthanon and reiterated the province’s commitment to embracing digital advancements for the benefit of both the government and its citizens.
The Prachinburi Provincial Local Government Promotion Office’s meeting signified a pivotal step towards a more digitally-driven government. The Digital Local System’s integration promises enhanced efficiency, transparency, and cost-effectiveness, ushering in a new era of governance that meets the evolving needs of the people.
Thailand’s government will remain committed to its various agendas to propel the country into a technologically advanced and sustainable future. The Thai government recognises the pivotal role that innovation and technology play in addressing contemporary challenges and fostering long-term development.
The collaborative efforts between the DGA and local government agencies showcase a commitment to fostering innovation and leveraging technology for the betterment of society. By embracing innovation and leveraging technology, they strive to create more efficient, sustainable, and resilient communities that benefit citizens’ well-being and contribute to society’s overall progress.
