The Minister of Information and Communications (MIC) has announced plans for cities and provinces across Vietnam to establish digital transformation centres to introduce digital solutions to the local population.
According to the MIC, these centres will offer guidelines on digital transformation and provide business-oriented applications. In October, one locality will be selected to pilot a digital transformation centre. This initiative aims to assist localities and businesses in overcoming barriers to digital transformation.
MIC will also distribute manuals to guide localities in their digital transformation efforts. All ministries, sectors, and localities have established steering committees dedicated to digital transformation and have formulated digital transformation strategies.
In the era of the fourth industrial revolution, the adoption of modern technology, the advancement of smart production, and digital transformation are inevitable trends for enterprises. The ministry anticipates that by 2025, Vietnam will have 80,000 digital technology companies, which will meet at least 50% of digital technology and services from government agencies.
In 2021, Vietnam established a goal for the digital technology sector to take the lead in driving the implementation of Industry 4.0 within the country. This initiative aimed for revenue growth that is 2.5 times higher than the overall GDP expansion rate. In 2022, the revenue of Vietnam’s ICT sector reached US$ 148 billion, marking an 8.7% increase compared to the previous year. Revenue from the ICT sector is expected to reach US$ 165 billion by the end of 2023, climbing to US$ 185 billion by 2025.
MIC has noted that digital technology, with its emphasis on design, creation, and manufacturing within Vietnam, stands as the pivotal industrial sector propelling the nation’s industrialisation and modernisation. It plays a crucial role in enhancing digitalisation capabilities and shaping Vietnam into a digitally advanced country.
As a leading locality in the country’s digitalisation drive, Hanoi has implemented a range of strategies. These include initiatives like “Digital Transformation of Hanoi by 2025, with a Vision by 2030” and the “Plan to develop the National Digital Address Platform Linked to Digital Maps,” among others.
In early November 2022, ITG Technology JSC unveiled the official launch of its Digital Transformation Centre in Hanoi. This centre has been established to provide support to enterprises in their digital transformation efforts, aligning with the objectives of the government’s National Digital Transformation Programme.
The centre formulated three primary objectives, encompassing raising awareness, implementation, and popularising the values of digital transformation within the Vietnamese business community. It serves as a platform for businesses to gain insights into fundamental digital transformation concepts and draw from the experiences of numerous leading experts in Vietnam and Asia who specialise in digital technology and transformation. The aim is to enhance productivity and quality for businesses.
Hanoi has been making breakthroughs in the implementation of administrative reform and digital transformation. Earlier this year, the police in the city issued chip-based ID cards to residents. Out of the total of over 6.22 million e-ID accounts created, more than 4.22 million accounts were activated as of June.
Given Vietnam’s shortage of human resources equipped with advanced technology and automation skills, the dissemination of world-class information and knowledge becomes crucial. This effort is geared toward empowering every business, enabling them to enhance their expertise and capabilities and integrate more deeply into the global supply chain.
