Indonesia and Japan have formed a strategic alliance aimed at enhancing their extensive economic collaboration, with a specific focus on cultivating competitive manufacturing sectors, and data reveals this partnership has yielded a positive trade trend over the last three years.

The total trade value between Indonesia and Japan reached USD 42.03 billion in 2022, marking a significant growth of 29.25% compared to the previous year’s USD 32.5 billion. Furthermore, Japan’s investment in Indonesia in 2022 amounted to USD 3.56 billion, reflecting a notable increase of 12.5% compared to the 2021 figure of USD 2.26 billion.

The Head of the Human Resources Development Agency for Industry (BPSDMI) under the Ministry of Industry elaborated on several governmental policies and programmes that form a crucial part of the collaborative efforts between Indonesia and Japan. Among these initiatives, there is a strong emphasis on advancing sustainable development grounded in the principles of a green economy, industry, and technology.

One noteworthy example of this collaboration is the acceleration of Electric Vehicle (EV) development, reflecting the commitment of both nations to environmentally friendly solutions and technological advancements.

“This multifaceted approach underscores the dedication to fostering a sustainable future through strategic cooperation between Indonesia and Japan, with a particular focus on innovative and eco-friendly industries such as the EV sector,” said Masrokhan.

The Head of BPSDMI indicated several economic collaborations between Indonesia and Japan, including the Indonesia-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (IJEPA), which has completed the General Review process and is finalising amendment protocols.

Masrokhan’s remarks shed light on the robust and dynamic collaboration between Indonesia and Japan, a partnership that has taken in digital technology integration and the comprehensive adoption of Industry 4.0 principles. This extensive joint effort encompasses multifaceted training and mentorship programmes, extending their transformative reach to both skilled industrial workers and aspiring students since the inception of this initiative back in 2021, primarily hosted at various institutions like Politeknik STMI Kemenperin and PIDI 4.0.

These stakeholders include significant entities such as the Ministry of Industry through instrumental branches like BPSDMI, ILMATE, PIDI 4.0, BRIN, and vital industrial partners participating in the ambitious Lean Human Resource Development Programme.

The Head of BSKJI expressed optimism towards the dedicated efforts of the partnership. The commendation is particularly extended to their unwavering focus in the current year, marked by their relentless dedication to nurturing and cultivating the industrial human resources within the nation. This strategic focus on human capital development aligns seamlessly with Japan’s visionary objectives, further strengthening the bond between the two nations in the context of industrial progress.

In a world that is ushering in the Industry 4.0 era, the core message, strongly underscored by Masrokhan, emphasised the critical importance of adaptability for industrial human resources. They must embrace and harness the boundless potential of digital technology as a definitive solution to stay competitive and thrive in this era of rapid technological evolution.

This resounding call for adaptation resonates throughout the collaborative efforts between Indonesia and Japan, signifying a shared commitment to securing a future for both nations within the transformative landscape of Industry 4.0.
