Artificial intelligence and robotics subjects have been introduced into the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) curriculums for schools in Mangaluru. In fact, the majority of schools have introduced these subjects this academic year.
The most recent school to include these courses in its curriculum is located in Puttur. It has collaborated with a private engineering college in Mangaluru to develop its syllabus for AI and robotics. The school launched AI and robotics classes for grades 5 to 10. Each of these subjects will have three weekly classes. The courses are taught by two teachers who are engineering graduates, ensuring that students receive specialised and competent instruction. The school has also installed interactive smart keyboards to enhance learning. They promote interactive and engaging learning experiences, providing students with innovative tools to thrive.
Another school in Bejai has a similar curriculum that includes computer science, robotics, and AI. A school in Maryhill has also introduced AI for classes for grades 1 to 9 this academic year. Robotics has been a part of the school’s curriculum for the past five years, but AI classes were introduced this year. The school will conduct two classes per week, led by teachers who have received specialised training in the subjects. The students will be evaluated through examinations to assess their understanding and progress in these fields. The school is also planning to extend the AI classes to grade 10 in the upcoming academic year, further expanding the opportunities for students to engage with these important subjects.
The introduction of AI and robotics subjects aims to provide the younger generation with early exposure to these cutting-edge fields. It is expected that by including these subjects in the curriculum, students will be inspired and motivated to explore the possibilities and opportunities in AI, robotics, and other emerging technologies. It also strives to encourage students to stay in India after graduation and contribute to the country’s growth in these fields, rather than seeking opportunities abroad. Other parts of the country are also embracing the trend of incorporating the fundamentals of emerging technologies into school curriculums. Last month, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced that technical colleges in Himachal Pradesh will get new courses in AI, data science, and mechatronics engineering, starting in the upcoming academic session.
From this month onwards, the Himachal state government has decided to introduce a wide range of courses across various institutions. The Government Hydro Engineering College Bilaspur will offer the Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech.) programme in Computer Science and Engineering with a specialisation in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science. This course has been approved by the All-India Council for Technical Education and the Himachal Pradesh Technical University. The government polytechnic institutions in Rohru and Chamba will offer specialised courses in computer engineering and mechatronics engineering, respectively.
Furthermore, the government plans to add several courses in 17 industrial training institutes across the state. These courses include mechanic electric vehicle, technician mechatronics, fibre-to-home technician, solar technician (electric), Internet of Things technician, and maintenance mechanic (chemical plant), among others.
