Thailand’s Digital Identity Evidence Initiative for Army

Technology has become essential to modern government operations, transforming service delivery and enhancing operational efficiency. Organisations can create a conducive work environment that fosters productivity, collaboration, and growth by using technology to empower and support government employees.

In light of this, the Royal Thai Army has collaborated with the Digital Government Development Agency (DGA) and the Office of the Public Sector Development Commission made a joint announcement regarding implementing a digital evidence preparation system for army personnel. This system, accessible through the “state” application, aims to provide convenience to army personnel nationwide.

General Suksan Nongbua Lang announced an important collaboration where General Chalermpol Srisawat, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, has approved the implementation of digital identity evidence for army officials through the government application.

This initiative aims to facilitate identification and verification processes. The collaboration between the Army and the DGA operates under the security standards of the Civil Registration database of the Department of Provincial Administration, Ministry of Interior.

It combines with the electronic personnel database system (PDX system) to elevate the standard of identification and identity verification for Army officials in a digital format, matching the standards of a digital ID card. This system allows personnel to access and verify the accuracy of their profile information and conveniently and quickly request corrections to their information in the PDX system.

Furthermore, utilising their digital presence enables personnel to claim welfare benefits and services from Army service units. The central database of the PDX system facilitates fast and accurate verification of beneficiaries’ eligibility. The implementation of this digital army system is prepared to meet the highest safety standards required for operational purposes.

Dr Supoj Thienwut, Director of the Digital Government Development Agency, expressed great satisfaction in being involved in transforming the Royal Thai Army into a digitalised organisation. This initiative aims to ensure adaptability and relevance in the current landscape, particularly in providing convenience to troops nationwide by integrating Royal Thai Army personnel evidence into Government applications.

This endeavour aligns with the Digital Government Administration and Services Act 2019 and Thailand’s Digital Government Development Plan 2023-2027, including the central portal master plan for citizen engagement over three years. It signifies another crucial mission of the DGA in driving the digital government agenda, modernising the nation, and enhancing the lives of Thai citizens.

The “Government applications” serve as comprehensive and extensive platforms that act as the largest service centre for government agencies. This initiative results from a collaboration between the DGA, the Office of the Public Sector Development Commission, and other relevant alliances.

Its objective is to provide easy and complete access to over 80 government services for individuals of all ages, simplifying communication with government sectors through fast and convenient online channels. This approach aims to streamline previously complex processes, benefiting the public and Army officials nationwide.

In Phase 1, users can verify their identity through the government app, which then functions as a virtual card for identification purposes and enables access to various welfare services. This development is a significant step in identity verification, promoting fraud prevention, modernisation, and transparency without the need to carry physical identification cards.

By downloading the app on their mobile phones and visiting the government website, troops nationwide can effortlessly access the necessary services.
