In an attempt to encourage digital companies to go global, the Ministry of Information and Communication (MIC) held a conference for MIC leaders, technology enterprises and associations, representatives of embassies, international consulting organisations, and foreign trade promotion agencies in Vietnam.
Speaking at the event, MIC Deputy Minister Phan Tam said that in recent years, Vietnamese digital enterprises have developed rapidly in both quantity and competitiveness. Their digital offerings include products, services, and solutions that aid in the advancement of digital transformation, digital economy, and digital society within the country. Moreover, their efforts contribute to narrowing the global digital gap and building the digital world.
He quoted the statistics from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), which showed that an estimated 49% of the world’s population, or nearly 4 billion people, have not connected to the Internet yet. This is an opportunity for Vietnamese digital enterprises to expand their markets and bring their technology to solve digital transformation problems in other countries, thus contributing to the building of a digital world.
During the conference, delegates from Viettel Military Industry and Telecoms Group (Viettel) shared their knowledge and insights on expanding globally. They also engaged in conversations with other attendees on strategies for Vietnamese digital enterprises to seize business opportunities and establish partnerships in foreign markets.
Earlier, the Information and Communications Public Management Institute (ICI) and the Digital Transformation Strategy Institute (DTSI) signed a cooperation agreement to enhance the digital capacity of organisations and individuals. The move aims to boost the implementation of the three pillars of national digital transformation – digital government, digital society, and digital economy.
The agreement involves collaboration between the two parties to execute training programmes focused on digital transformation. DTSI will be responsible for constructing and enhancing the training programmes, while ICI will oversee their implementation. Furthermore, the two sides will cooperate in the research and development of scientific projects and scientific products related to digital transformation based on the policies of the state, government, and related ministries and agencies.
The two institutes will also coordinate with each other to organise scientific seminars, scientific research, thematic talks, consulting activities, surveys, and joint assessments in the field of digital transformation. The Former Deputy Minister of Information and Communications and Chairman of the Vietnam Digital Communication Association voiced his appreciation for this strategic cooperation and hoped that the two parties would work collaboratively toward the successful execution of digital transformation training programs in accordance with the government’s directives.
Vietnam has been accelerating the digital transformation process in line with the national digital transformation strategy released in 2020. In 2022, 16 documents were issued regarding digital transformation, including a national strategy for digital economic development until 2025 with a vision for 2030. The speed of broadband Internet and mobile Internet has improved significantly, ranking 45th and 52nd in the world. The figure is higher than the world’s average.
Most Vietnamese localities have made their provincial smart monitoring and managing centres operational. Last month, over 644,000 payment transactions with a total value of more than VND 279 billion (over US$ 11.8 million) were processed through the National Public Service Portal. In January, over 338,000 accounts were registered, and more than 7.2 million records were synchronised with the portal. Since its debut in December 2019, the portal has provided 4,377 public services online with over 4.3 million registered accounts.
