Indonesia’s National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) held a digital cybersecurity literacy campaign for Indonesian youth. The cybersecurity awareness movement is designed to raise awareness and educate Indonesia’s young generation on cybersecurity issues and to ensure good behaviour when surfing in cyberspace.
“The higher the utilisation of ICT, the higher the threat that accompanies it. The millennial generation must be fully aware of the risks associated with using devices to access the cyber realm. Cyber threats can even endanger the nation’s interests. These factors motivate BSSN to host a cybersecurity cultural literacy programme,” Hinsa Siburian, Head of BSSN explained.
Hinsa Siburian shared the ins and outs, potentials and threats that exist in cyberspace with 1,500 students and teaching staff from SMKN 2 Surakarta and SMKN 6 Surakarta. In addition, 3,500 people attended the session online.
Hinsa emphasised that various values, customs and national and state cultures must be maintained and applied when surfing in cyberspace. Moreover, the BSSN Head encourages students to focus on learning to achieve their goals by taking advantage of opportunities in cyberspace.
To contribute to the creation of a safe cyberspace ecosystem, the education sector must be able to produce digital talent as adaptive and innovative professional human resources (HR) with the Pancasila character.
Riena Retnaningrum, the Kadiskominfo for Central Java Province, who was present online on behalf of the Governor of Central Java, agreed that technological progress was unavoidable. “Everyone must equip themselves with sufficient knowledge as a strong shield so that today’s virtual world does not hurt our mentality but instead becomes an arena for positive creation and innovation. The campaign is exciting; it provides provisions while also entertaining.”
On the other hand, Sugiyarso, the Principal of SMK Negeri 2 Surakarta, stressed the importance of cybersecurity campaigns in schools. Such training can serve as the first step in providing students with an understanding of the importance of cyber security and a shared reminder to continue practising wise internet media habits.
During the campaign, BSSN facilitated a “Ready to Become Digital Talents” discussion. The forum discussed the opportunities and challenges of human cybersecurity resources in Indonesia. It also debuted a Literacy Corner at the event. The room’s goal is to serve as a platform for cyber security culture literacy for Indonesian youth to study cyber security using digital methods and packaged following current learning trends.
OpenGov Asia reported that Johnny G. Plate, Minister of Communication and Informatics has revealed that all Electronic System Operators (ESO) must prepare a comprehensive security system for processing personal data to prepare for the growing threat of hacking and other cyber-attacks. Private and public ESOs are at the forefront of the mechanism as controllers and processors of personal electronic transaction data.
All Electronic System Operators are to strictly adhere to the Personal Data Protection Act’s provisions to reduce cyber threats. Following Personal Data Protection Law Number 27 of 2022, the government regulates subjects’ rights, personal data processing, and the obligations of data controllers and processors. The government is keen to regulate people’s rights, streamline personal data processing and ensure data businesses fulfil their obligations.
The Minister encouraged fintech players to use electronic authentication services provided by Electronic Certification Operators to increase the reliability of fintech services (ECO). Meeting transaction trust standards require ECO authentication, particularly at the international level.
According to Minister Johnny, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics has certified nine ECOs following a thorough audit. The nine ECOs are comprised of both public and private institutions. The Minister of Communication and Informatics also invited financial institutions to work together to promote the use of electronic certificates and to increase education to achieve more secure and reliable financial transaction services.
