The Digital DIY Portal set up by the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) has received a positive response from digital solution providers after its Beta version was rolled out in late May. In just over a month, the number of ready-to-use business digital solution offers available at the portal has doubled to more than 200; including product listing services on an online shopping platform worth HK$390,000; companies setting up their projects in Metaverse can enjoy a discount of up to 75%; a service discount of as high as 63% for web design, etc.
The launch of the Digital DIY Portal was held recently, supported by over 100 Hong Kong, Mainland and overseas digital solution providers and industry organisations as technology partners and supporting organisations respectively.
HKPC has carried out two pilot transformation cases, to make it easy for SMEs to understand the infinite possibilities of digital transformation (DX), including assisting a proprietary Chinese medicine and health product manufacturer to connect with an expert in establishing online stores through the portal’s technology partner network. In just two months, a new online store with several popular electronic payment and logistics delivery methods in Hong Kong has been successfully established, together with the setting up of a membership scheme and the launch of online marketing and promotion to develop more business opportunities.
The Chairman of HKPC spoke at the launching ceremony and stated that the Digital DIY Portal was designed to the challenges SMEs face in the adoption of digital application technology. It aims to leverage the power of digital solution providers in the city to turn some seemingly complex application technologies of the ‘digital economy’ into preferential solutions that are easy to understand and can be used by SMEs, enabling enterprises to achieve DX with a well-thought-out, practical and enterprise needs-oriented approach.
Digital DIY Portal enables enterprises to get connected with different DX solution providers, gathers affordable and ready-to-use solutions that cover different industries and match the needs of SMEs, and provides the latest information on digital and innovation and technology (I&T) activities, and DX and technology-related training courses.
The business digital solutions currently available at the portal include e-commerce, smart office management, network security solutions, e-marketing, data analytics, and more. The majority of them offer flexible payment methods including monthly or pay-as-you-go charges. The portal is also designed with a solution search function that provides multiple search options, including industries, solution categories, discounts and keywords, to ensure companies can find suitable solutions more easily and quickly.
Experts from different fields will also be invited to share successful cases and in-depth analysis of the pain points of SMEs regularly, to keep track of specific needs of different industries and offer suitable DX solutions. Moreover, online and offline events will be held to enhance SMEs’ awareness of DX, such as Digital DIY Live, industry seminars, one-on-one consultation sessions and related training. For example, the Conference on Getting Head Start by Empowering Smart Business was held at the launch and saw the sharing of various successful cases and practical strategies of DX.
HKPC has been striving to use innovative technology and digital technology to drive Hong Kong enterprises to raise their productivity and competitiveness. Digital DIY Portal is one of its key projects this year to enhance productivity through technology, providing local SMEs with a more comprehensive choice of digital solutions so that they can fully meet their operational and business needs at different stages of development and continue to increase the overall competitiveness while also helping Hong Kong develop a digital economy.
