The government of Thailand has long emphasised the use of technology creatively to create additional opportunities and make Thailand a regional centre for digital affairs, with a focus on deploying 5G technology in support of national development.
Thailand’s Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha said during the opening ceremony for Thailand 5G Summit 2022 that the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES) has been given the job of setting up a policy framework to encourage the use of 5G technology in Thailand. This, in turn, would help with the management of the infrastructure for telecommunications that is ready for 5G and encourage the creation of new products and services.
Gen. Prayut said that this year’s summit was a place to start building networks of collaboration in Thailand and around the world. The event also shows that Thailand is ready for 5G technology and that its telecom infrastructure is ready to support it. It also helps Thailand develop new technologies and digital innovations to make the country more competitive and drive the growth of the digital economy. The summit will also help the kingdom become a leader in the region when it comes to 5G technology.
Driving digital technology and innovations is important for getting people to use 5G and for business and civic sectors to have more opportunities.
In addition, Phuchaphong Nodthaisong, the Secretary-General of the National Digital Economy and Society Committee, discussed the potential of 5G technology, the challenges associated with it, and the promotion of its utilisation in six different fields, including agriculture, public health, industry, education, transportation, and smart cities.
He added that incentivising the construction of high-performance 5G networks across the globe and encouraging investment to expand service capacities are both important goals. The advancement of the digital economy using 5G technology, with a primary emphasis on aiding in the growth of the nation’s core sectors and target industries.
Using 5G technology to enhance the quality of life for individuals, thereby contributing to the creation of a high-quality society and eliminating the disparities that result from access to government services across all fields. Developing a digital ecosystem to create an environment that is prepared for the implementation of 5G technologies for the purpose of encouraging all industries to be prepared for the commercial deployment of 5G technology.
This was done to encourage and strengthen the implementation of digital economy development. Funding requests, including those for 5G technology, may be sent to the Digital Economy and Society Development Fund, sometimes known as the DE fund.
Video posting without consent prohibits in Thailand
Meanwhile, Thailand has warned social media users who are continuously posting any video recordings without consent.
Minister of Digital Economy and Society Chaiwut Thanakamanusor cautioned against posting clips of individuals on social media, regardless of motive, as doing so may violate the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA).
He added that while it is permissible to photograph or record criminal activities for the purpose of gathering evidence, it is still prohibited to upload such content to the Internet, and those who appear in such content may be prosecuted.
The Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA), which went into effect on 1 June 2022, prohibits individuals from posting video recordings of other individuals without their agreement on social media, as doing so may constitute a breach of the law.
