The Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) has approved a plan to promote the development and use of next-generation national online meeting platforms in Vietnam. After assessing online meeting platforms developed by key local technology firms following a set of standards, MIC will launch the websites for state agencies, organisations, businesses, and individuals.
As one of 35 national digital platforms prioritised for development, online platforms for virtual meetings will be deployed on the technical infrastructure of state agencies and key technology firms nationwide. National online meeting platforms for state agencies must meet basic and advanced technical requirements in terms of features, functions, and performance in accordance with MIC’s technical criteria from Decision 157 dated 28 January 2022.
According to a press release by the Ministry, the platforms must ensure requirements on information security according to the levels of technical infrastructure, information storage and exploitation, and user data according to the State’s regulations to avoid the risk of information loss and illegal exploitation. They should also be able to integrate with other digital platforms and support connection methods in online meetings to take advantage of available terminals to optimise costs and ensure ease of use, the release said.
As for national online meeting platforms for organisations, businesses, and individuals, they must meet technical requirements for features, functions, performance, and information security following the set of technical criteria and requirements from Decision 157. The platforms will be deployed on the data centre technology infrastructure and cloud computing of key technology firms.
Three major providers, including state-run organisation Viettel, have contacted the Central Post and Telecommunications Department to discuss the plans on making products following the government’s set criteria. An expert noted that the technical criteria and standards will help organisations and individuals choose reasonable platforms and solutions for themselves and help suppliers in Vietnam know what they need to solve to satisfy clients’ requirements.
As per the release, this month, several technology firms will perfect their platforms and prepare them for use. A team of experts will be set up in May to assess the platforms before the announcement on the national online meeting platforms slated for June.
The government has been pushing to shift public services online as well as make information related to government projects and schemes more easily accessible, improving transparency and efficiency. Last month, the Ho Chi Minh City Municipal Department of Information and Communications announced that the city’s official digital transformation portal has been put into operation. The portal is a move to implement the southern economic hub’s digital transformation programme and smart city building projects.
As OpenGov Asia reported earlier, with a modern, simple, and assessable user interface, the portal offers an overview of the city’s related plans, digital progress, news, and cooperation activities. The site also features a multi-media library. The Deputy Director of the Department, Vo Thi Trung Trinh, had noted that via the portal, city leaders can receive ideas, suggestions, and plans from local residents, organisations, and businesses.
City officials and civil servants can promptly systematise and adjust the municipal digital transformation documents, programmes, and projects. Meanwhile, experts, the general public, organisations, and enterprises can access and learn information about local transformation. They can search for applications and public services that are being provided on digital platforms.
