The Indian Institute of Technology in Jodhpur has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Jodhpur City Knowledge and Innovation Foundation (JCKIF) and the Rajasthan government to establish a joint venture on the artificial intelligence of things (AIoT) systems and technology development. AIoT is the combination of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies with the Internet of Things (IoT) infrastructure that can make IoT operations more efficient, improve human-machine interactions, and enhance data management and analytics. AI can be used to transform IoT data into useful information for improved decision-making processes, creating a foundation for newer technology such as IoT Data as a Service (IoTDaaS).
Under the MoU, the AIoT systems will be designed, developed, prototyped, tested, and produced at the IIT-Jodhpur Technology Park. According to the Institute, the proposed ecosystem complements the central government’s recently announced Semiconductor Mission as well as local policies in Rajasthan. It will facilitate the creation of AIoT technologies by start-ups, MSME, faculty, and students in a wide range of applications, including transportation, energy, healthcare, surveillance and security, and water management.
Signing the agreement, IIT-Jodhpur Director, Santanu Chaudhury, stated that AIoT is transforming healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, and all industrial domains. The AIoT Innovation Hub at IIT-Jodhpur will boost growth in the industry in Rajasthan and across the entire country. With AIoT, healthcare organisations can enhance the performance of human cognitive tasks such as diagnostics or therapeutics, supporting clinicians in treating diseases. As per reports, the technology will be of immense use in healthcare delivery, particularly in periphery health systems, an industry expert explained. The joint venture will prove to be a milestone in the development of the state. AIoT will lead to the better implementation of public welfare projects across various sectors and will be beneficial for Rajasthan’s start-up ecosystem as well, an official stated.
Last month, IIT-Jodhpur said it was inviting applications for its postgraduate diploma in data engineering and cloud computing. The applications window for the programme is open until 11 March, and its first batch is set to commence later this month, according to reports. It is a 12-month-long intensive programme comprising over 600 learning hours and live online classes by the faculty of IIT-Jodhpur. The curriculum is strategically designed for IT, software, and technology professionals. Students will be required to complete a capstone project at the end of the programme. Candidates will also receive IIT-Jodhpur alumni status after completing the course.
An official from the Institute noted that companies are becoming increasingly reliant on cloud services and models, necessitating the IT sector’s constant search for competitive and specialised capabilities. It is forecasted that the big data and data engineering services market size will grow at a CAGR of 18% from 2021 to 2027. With the exclusive and unique PG diploma programme, IIT-Jodhpur strives to train and nurture skilled talent who are ready to make professional and career gains out of the growing industry, the official added.
