Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), Malaysia’s lead digital economy agency, announced that two firms have been selected as MDEC’s Marketing Agency of Record (AOR) for a period of 12 months.
The appointment of both agencies is the result of an open tender exercise for advertising (media and creative) services that MDEC initiated in June 2021. All submissions were thoroughly evaluated, and the tender’s results were recently completed, with an international communications network being awarded the AOR for MDEC’s rakyat and business segments and a Malaysia-based communications company firm for the digital investments segment.
The agencies will be leading the creative execution of all planned marketing campaigns as well as providing strategic media planning and buying to promote MDEC’s programmes and initiatives in the respective segments.
The international communications networking company will aid in the execution of MDEC’s programmes under digital skills and jobs as well as the digital adoption ecosystem, which are specifically targeted towards rakyat and business segments. These programmes aim to develop digitally skilled Malaysians, digitally upskill and reskill local talents, and accelerate digital adoption among people and businesses.
On the other hand, the communications company will be executing marketing campaigns surrounding MDEC’s digital investment pillar, which aims to position Malaysia as the digital hub of ASEAN as well as attract and build confidence among local and international investors.
MDEC is proud to have both firms on as part of MDEC’s efforts to enable a progressive, innovation-led digital economy. They will play vital roles in ensuring MDEC’s programmes and initiatives are communicated to the people, businesses, and investors.
Both companies are awarded the AOR via an open tender exercise, which encompasses MDEC’s commitment towards a high standard of integrity, transparency, and good governance in the conduct of its operations. MDEC is constantly striving to break the corruption chain and is looking forward to working with more entities via fair and open processes.
Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) is the agency under the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia Malaysia leading the digital transformation of the economy for 25 years. It aims to enable a progressive, innovation-led digital economy.
MDEC will continue to lead Malaysia towards becoming a globally competitive digital nation through the development and execution of the Malaysia Digital initiative, which aims to create substantial digital economic spill-over through equitable access to digital tools, knowledge, and income opportunities.
Predicated on a new framework built upon three primary components – Agility, Flexibility, and Relevance – Malaysia Digital is set to enhance Malaysia’s value proposition to attract digital investments, firmly establishing Malaysia as the digital hub of ASEAN.
A major method for doing this is by investing in cities; technology development and innovation have always been inexplicably tied to cities. In Malaysia, the crystallisation of its global tech hubs is being seen. For example, Cyberjaya in the Greater Klang Valley; the northern island state of Penang; and Iskandar Puteri, in the state of Johor. These cities not only serve as Malaysia’s centres of innovation but as hosts to some of the world’s most prolific multinational technology companies. They form a vital part of Malaysia’s digital economy ecosystem.
These are not the only Malaysian cities that are emerging as global tech hubs. Kuching, the capital city of Sarawak, has through the Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) created the Sigfox Internet of Things (IoT) and the 5G Technology Testbeds – open innovation platforms driving the development of IoT and 5G use cases.
According to the Senior Vice President, Investment and Brand and Chief Marketing Officer at MDEC, the development of these cities into global tech hubs is in line with the Malaysia Digital Economy Blueprint (MyDIGITAL) to make Malaysia a regional leader in the digital economy, especially towards its target to create 500,000 new jobs, attract two unicorns, and achieve RM70 billion investment in digitalisation.
