A global tech leader specialising in smart logistics, opened its brand-new Global Research & Development (R&D) Centre at Hong Kong Science Park. The Centre represents the company’s dedication to developing artificial intelligence and robotics (AIR) technologies for the international logistics market as well as other Hong Kong’s industries.
Since its founding in 2015, the smart logistics company has continued to nurture and invest in the company’s R&D capabilities. Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) is one of the investors to help the smart logistics company fully develop and realise their ideas in Hong Kong and beyond.
Currently, half of the smart logistics company’s 1,500 employees are invested in R&D and the company holds over 300 patents. The Centre can be seen as the next step in enhancing the company’s innovative strength, provide new job opportunities, and fast-track the next generation of AIR talent.
The CEO at HKSTP stated the launch is a good reflection of Hong Kong’s ability to attract top AI companies to establish a foothold here, and its status as an international innovation and technology hub. He noted that apart from benefiting the city’s logistics sector, the smart logistics company’s research and development on smart automation has the potential to drive the transformation of other traditional industries. The hope is that the new Centre will create even more job opportunities for young people in AI.

It also takes advantage to facilitate digital transformation in logistics, the key industry in Hong Kong.
The Centre will introduce a variety of smart automation solutions for affordable, efficient, and safe logistics processes in warehousing and manufacturing.
The Goods-to-person picking system uses autonomous mobile robots to organise inventory, based on real-time demand and moves shelves and pallets of ordered goods to picking-stations, where employees will finalise, the process guided by a user-friendly interface. Compared to warehouses that solely rely on manual operations and humans to physically walk between goods to picking stations, it improves picking accuracy and efficiency by 300%.
