Nearly eight months after a Jakarta-headquartered start-up raised a funding round in November 2020 as part of its US$ 30 million Series C extension, the latest deal has fallen into place. The funding will further extend the growth of health services through the potential collaboration with several BUMN entities in Indonesia.
It is currently in the process of developing the world’s most comprehensive one-stop solution for people to manage patients’ health completely. This funding goes a long way in fulfilling their health-tech mission to develop integrated digital-based healthcare in Indonesia. The influx will help to expand and digitise its healthcare ecosystem, as well as create new products for its platform.
The health-tech platform boasts more than 30 million monthly active users and over 43,000 qualified doctors making it Indonesia’s leading telemedicine application. It will be collaborating with a network of 20,000 doctors, as well as 1,000 hospitals and clinics on its projects.
The health-tech app has a proven track record of developing its full healthcare solutions. From telemedicine to insurance, all of the innovations were designed to meet Indonesia’s demand for accessible and affordable healthcare services. Patients registered on this platform can get an end-to-end digital solution from the health-tech platform, which includes telemedicine, doctor booking, medical content, and health insurance.
The platform also publishes information about common ailments, diseases, drugs and general well-being in Bahasa Indonesia. Registered users can ask questions on its website or via its AI-supported chat app, which are then answered by the app’s team of doctors. In the near future, the company plans to introduce its e-pharmacy services.
An article by OpenGov Asia reported that as the Indonesian government begins to boost health tech services and the market becomes more established, the entry of international health tech firms into the market is expected to drive demand even higher.
Product development is becoming more important for health tech service providers as market awareness develops. Digital health is helping Indonesia’s healthcare system in overcoming challenges. E-pharmacies and online consultations are two examples of digital health technologies that help Indonesians in rural and remote areas get excellent health care service
Furthermore, the demand for general practitioners, specialised doctors, and other healthcare practitioners has increased tremendously on these platforms over time. Supporting this trend, domestic platforms are partnering with an increasing number of doctors to provide end-users with access to doctors via platforms.
Despite being the world’s fourth most populous country, Indonesia suffers from a significant shortage of doctors. According to World Health Organization statistics from 2021, Indonesia had a ratio of 2.1 doctors per 10,000 patients – far below the recommended 1:600 doctor-patient ratio. The most recent accessible figure may be relatively old but the situation on the ground has not changed significantly.
Many Indonesians also tend to avoid or delay medical attention due to lack of knowledge, time or, in the case of the low-income and rural residents, affordability and access to healthcare resources.
Many of these limitations have been addressed owing to Indonesia’s rapid adoption of the internet and social media platforms over the last decade. Hopefully, people in Indonesia will not have to worry about any medical needs since such health-tech platforms have the potential to provide all-encompassing digital health services.
The pandemic has boosted the acceptance of telemedicine services for both patients and healthcare providers. The health tech provider believes that enabling better healthcare through technology has become more critical than ever.
Future technological innovation will continue to revolutionise healthcare, with new pharmaceuticals and treatments, new devices, new social media support for healthcare, and other technologies driving innovation, especially through the implementation of these health tech platforms.
