Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP), is announcing Sensor Lab 2.0, the next phase of its Sensor Packaging and Integration Laboratory (Sensor Lab) featuring more sensor product developers, expanded infrastructure and facilities, plus enhanced support by global leading industry partners to elevate development and deployment of advanced sensor products and solutions.
To further accelerate Hong Kong’s vision for reindustrialisation and economic diversification, HKSTP is creating world-class R&D and advanced manufacturing capabilities in emerging technology areas. Sensor Lab 2.0 will see a growing focus on smart sensors for healthcare applications and bring global electronics and semiconductor industry leaders to support a growing number of sensor companies in Hong Kong Science Park.
Participating companies at Sensor Lab will now benefit from the phase 2 expansion to 10,000 sq ft of cleanroom space, plus dedicated support and training from HKSTP and partners on go-to-market and business expansion strategies.
Sensor Lab is a dedicated hardware hub located at Hong Kong Science Park, supporting the full research and development cycle of microsensors and associated devices, including sensor design, fabrication and pilot runs, packaging, and testing.
HKSTP is partnering with two leading firms to provide enhanced support to start-ups and researchers on the development of smart sensors for healthcare markets, with a focus on shortening hardware development cycles and lowering R&D costs. They will consult on core technology development, as well as go-to-market strategy and provide access to global partners and customers.
The CEO at HKSTP stated that since the launch of Sensor Lab in 2017, a growing number of sensor chip companies have set up fabrication processes and equipment in Hong Kong. The opportunity for Hong Kong to lead advanced sensor development is enormous a fast-growing pipeline of impactful applications being developed around the next generation of smart sensors and solutions emerging from Sensor Lab is being observed currently.
The expanded Sensor Lab 2.0 in partnership with the two firms, is a major milestone in building a world-class IoT healthcare ecosystem and cements Hong Kong as a regional powerhouse for advanced sensors and electronics R&D and manufacturing.

The second firm, a semiconductor company, provides leading performance signal processing technologies and solutions for all industries including industrial automation, energy network, instrumentation, digital healthcare, automotive, communication and consumer.
The Regional Sales Director of the firm noted that digital healthcare is a new era; the firm has a strategic vision about how to lead the market migration. The role of the company in this partnership is the technical and total solution leader and marketing promotion partner.
The company’s technical team will provide technical guidance and support to the end developers team together with the first company’s team. The semiconductor provider will also help promote next-generation wearable sensors and devices to appropriate end customers by leveraging its customer channels and customer relationship.
Moreover, the semiconductor firm will develop a reference healthcare sensor and IoT design platform for wearable device design evaluation which supports low power computing and connectivity, signal processing, and smart algorithm development.
Meanwhile, the first company will act as a key ecosystem enabler to provide the hardware platform and total solutions for start-ups to optimize the design of wearable sensor products.
