The International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (IIIT-H) and TalentSprint, an NSE group company, has announced the launch of a postgraduate (PG) certification programme on the Internet of Things (IoT) and Smart Analytics.
The course, which is scheduled to start in June, is a nine-month programme and is designed both for IoT engineers, who want to master analytics, as well as other tech professionals and managers from industries disrupted by heavy IoT adoption, according to a news report.
A team of faculty leading Smart City research at IIITH will teach participants through live, interactive online classes, and mentor them as they apply learnings on leading industry projects.
The PG certificate is IIIT-H’s third program in partnership with TalentSprint and will offer an opportunity for working professionals to learn from the faculty and work on industry-leading projects. While the first six months of the programme will teach foundations and include simple experiments, the last three months will be hands-on application-based learning. At the end of nine months, the participants will have gained the confidence and expertise needed to lead AI-powered IoT deployments in their organisations, Professor PJ Narayanan, the Director of IIIT-H, explained.
The CEO and Managing Director of TalentSprint, Santanu Paul, noted that the programme will meet the industry’s critical need for technical experts required to fulfill its ambitions of interconnectivity. Through this programme, the collaboration aims to upskill over 1,000 professionals over the next three to five years.
He added, “TalentSprint offers unique executive education programs to solve the most challenging and pertinent industry problems. All our programmes, offered in partnership with top-tier academic institutes, have consistently reported extremely high participant satisfaction.”
Further, Narayanan mentioned that IIIT-H, with its deep focus on Smart City research, has set up several IoT verticals on air quality, building energy, water quantity and quality and street lighting, among others. Talking about one such project, a faculty member at the institute said in a bid to analyse pollution at the microlevel and understand its impact on health, IIIT-H is planning to ramp up its IoT project where the IoT nodes are placed at different parts of the city to measure as well as analyse air pollution. “We started working on this project a year ago and have already set up 30 IoT nodes across the city to collect data and will be setting up another 20 nodes in one month’s time,” he added.
IoT adoption, which is increasing exponentially across varied industry verticals including manufacturing, retail, logistics, energy, supply chain, and healthcare has the potential to generate up to US$11 trillion in economic value by 2025, according to a media report.
However, the growth of IoT needs to be seen in the context of its potential when used in combination with other technologies like artificial intelligence, machine learning, and big data. The existing installed base of over five billion smartphones, two billion personal computers, and one billion tablets, when connected, indicates a massive market for IoT transformation.
While IoT projects are a top priority for organisations, nearly 75% take twice as long to complete because of a talent shortage. The industry has a critical need for professionals with expertise in technologies and processes around IoT.
