Vietnamese publishing houses are offering free e-books to entertain their readers over the long break.
According to a press release by the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC), the Kim Dong Publishing House is presenting a collection of colour picture books for pre-schoolers and elementary school students.
The books consist of stories, poems and scientific knowledge relating to 10 different topics, including school, sea, health, sports, family, fruits, plants, seasons, animals and transport. Colouring pages and games are also featured.
The release explained that there have been more than 21,000 downloads of these books since the release day on March 23. The books are available at their website.
The Chibooks Media Company is presenting a Vietnamese version of COVID-19 Prevention Handbook.
The book is compiled by Yunnan Provincial Health Committee, Kunming University School of Medicine, Yunnan Provincial Academy of Medical Sciences, and Yunnan Education Press in China.

Saigon Books is offering 100,000 free copies of book COVID-19: From Basics to Clinical Practice (Vietnamese version) by Chinese professor Zhang Wenhong, head of the centre of infectious diseases at Huashan Hospital of Fudan University.
The Vietnamese book is compiled by Dr Pham Hung Van, former chairman of the HCM City Branch of Vietnam Association of Clinical Microbiology. Readers can access the company’s website to get free books.
In Vietnam, the fight against the epidemic has united the government, people, and army under the spirit of “fighting the pandemic is like fighting the enemy”. Prompt actions have been taken to prevent the spread, detect infections, quarantine infected and suspected cases, seal off affected areas, and suppress the outbreak.
Also, due to the complicated developments of COVID-19, the first-ever online book fair will be held from 19 April to 20 May 20 in celebration of the seventh Vietnam Book Day, which falls on 21 April each year.

Participants in the event can place orders for newly published books and join online exchanges and talks with book authors and speakers.
The online orders will be delivered to customers by the Vietnam Post and the National Newspapers Distribution Company.
The book fair will also include activities to promote a reading culture and raise public awareness of COVID-19 prevention and control, thus calling for joint effort in the fight against the epidemic.
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc issued Decision No.284/QD-TTg on 24 February 2014, designating 21 April as Vietnam Book Day in order to encourage reading culture among the public.
The last event was held on 6 March at Ho Chi Minh City’s Book Street (Nguyen Van Binh Street, District 1), to honour the “values that women have brought to life”, a press release had noted.
Interesting book titles and quotes from various publishing houses were showcased, aiming to express the sincerest of thanks to women worldwide, the release added.
