In a bid to get ahead of the challenging times presented by COVID-19, Hong Kong’s Smart Government Innovation Lab is releasing innovation after innovation.
Once again, The Lab has released a new solution, developed by one of its incubatees. The innovation is now ready to be acquired by other firms, government agencies and academic institutions.
Solution description
The solution, called the Una Interactive Training Platform, was developed in response to a major current pain point.
During the epidemic, schools across the region are closed indefinitely. Teachers can only use online conference software (such as Zoom / Microsoft Teams) for distance teaching.
However, due to software restrictions, teachers can only share their screens and fail to observe students. Work interface.
Thus, to enable teachers and students to get the best-simulated classroom environment, the local research and development team has developed the Una online interactive teaching platform.
This allows teachers to conduct remote teaching and upload questions, use real-time online interactive technology to answer questions, assess individual students’ learning performance in real-time, and maintain and improve teaching quality.
Application Areas
The solution was developed to be applied across all levels of Education.
Technologies Used
The solution employs Data Analytics and Mobile Technologies.
Use case
Examples of use cases are as follows:
- The Una platform was only launched for one year. At first, it was aimed at solving the needs of STEM teachers. It has been used by 60 Hong Kong primary and secondary schools. In the past, the company’s teacher training support institutions include Teachers Association (AiTLE, HKACE), government departments and business.
- For solving the pain points of distance teaching, the company will work with elementary school teachers to demonstrate how to use the Una platform for effective distance teaching in an online event of the Hong Kong Productivity Council in April 2020.
The benefits of the solution are:
- School: Through real-time interactive technology, teachers can grasp the learning effectiveness of individual students with learning schedules, and collaborative learning can also effectively solve the problem of learning differences. The Una platform can maintain and enhance the quality of teaching, both in traditional classrooms and distance teaching.
- Education centres (such as training centres and tutorial schools): Most of the offline teaching activities have been terminated due to epidemic diseases. Education centres have significantly reduced their income and affected their normal operations. If the education centre uses the Una platform, the company can provide technical support to enable the education centre to master the technology and implement effective online distance teaching to start classes.
About the Smart Government Innovation Lab
In 2018, the Government established the Smart Government Innovation Lab to explore hi-tech products such as AI and relevant technologies, including machine learning, big data analytics, cognitive systems and intelligent agent, as well as blockchain and robotics from firms, especially local start-ups.
The Lab is always on the lookout for innovation and technology (I&T) solutions that are conducive to enhancing public services or their operational effectiveness.
I&T suppliers are encouraged to regularly visit the Lab’s website to check on the current business and operational needs in public service delivery and propose innovative solutions or product suggestions to address them.
