The Ministry of Information and Communications has issued a directive and launched a campaign to “apply Vietnamese technology for digital life.”
According to news reports, the key content of the campaign is to promote digital applications in all fields, create a digital life and create new opportunities to promote socio-economic development.
The directive outlines ten key tasks, including developing a digital work environment, a health system, and a daily utility system, then training the systems to serve learning and other daily needs.
Also, creating a digital content system for entertainment, digital platform to provide transportation services, smart plant for production, digital payment platforms, cybersecurity solutions, and a community to support digital transformation in Vietnam.
The Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) said that the global COVID-19 pandemic posed a huge challenge for all countries, which could change the national ranking and competitiveness.
The ministry also noted that there is an opportunity in difficult situations to accelerate the process of digital transformation, online public services, digital health, digital education, cashless payment, e-commerce and the digital economy.
This was also an opportunity to guide and gradually universalise digital skills for the majority of people, which were the main force using digital government services, digital economy, and society in the future.
Earlier this month, the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) made all of its 292 public administrative services online. They can be accessed on the Ministry’s portal.
166 of which are level-3 and level-4 services while the remainders are level-2, according to the Ministry’s Vietnam e-Commerce and Digital Economy Agency.
The agency’s data shows that more than 31,000 enterprises have so far used online services provided on the MoIT’s official portal. Last year, the Ministry processed approximately 1.54 million online applications, accounting for 99% of the total applications lodged.
As OpenGov reported, MoIT launched its public administrative service portal, which has been connected with the national portal of the same kind as part of the effort to foster the development of e-government.
The Ministry has developed level-4 online services for applications and inquiries regarding temporary imports for re-exports made by foreign contractors, the issuance of licences for use of industrial explosives, certifications for the free circulation of imported and exported goods managed by the MoIT, electricity generation certifications, certifications of goods’ origin, and energy labelling.
The Ministry has also added 30 new online services in various areas, including industrial safety, food safety, science and technology, competition management, international trade and heavy industry, while further promoting the National Single Window and ASEAN Single Window.
Vietnam’s online public services system has four levels, depending on the number of services it supplies. The higher the level is, the more services it supplies on the Internet.
